70s Happy Days Star’s Unrecognizable Outing: Can You Guess Who?

Enthusiasts of old-school TV shows had a thrilling moment when they recognized one of the most iconic stars from “Happy Days” living in Los Angeles this week, as she seldom makes public appearances at her current age of 71.

The TV favorite looked effortlessly radiant behind the wheel of her SUV, flashing a sunny smile.

In a relaxed, casual style, I donned a blue plaid shirt and some weathered jeans that day, which made me almost unrecognizable from my glamorous on-screen persona. A stark contrast was evident when placed alongside the flashy costumes I wore in my brief stint as a showgirl in Blansky’s Beauties back in 1977.

As a die-hard admirer, I can’t help but marvel at the illustrious career of the actress hailing from Florida. She didn’t just rest on her laurels after achieving fame in sitcoms; instead, she graced our screens in movies that have become beloved classics, like Beaches and Pretty Woman.

She even took on a risqué role in the 1994 comedy Exit to Eden alongside Rosie O’Donnell.

Can you guess which iconic supporting star this is?

If you guessed Lynda Goodfriend, you nailed it!

In the fifth season of Happy Days, Goodfriend was introduced as Lori Beth Allen, a virtuous college girlfriend for Richie Cunningham. Over time, she became his wife during a unique long-distance wedding ceremony, which was overseen by phone from an Army training facility.

Initially appearing as a recurring character, Lynda’s charming rapport with Ron Howard and likable on-screen personality soon won over fans, leading to her being given a larger role in subsequent seasons.

Happy Days ended in 1984, after running for 11 seasons and a total of 255 episodes.

In 2023, she shared with the New York Film Academy that the eight years spent portraying Lori Beth, Ron Howard’s girlfriend on Happy Days, were undeniably the most enjoyable of all her professional experiences.

She added, ‘I also toured with a Broadway production called Good News with Alice Faye.

As a dedicated follower, I embarked on an exciting journey of nearly nine months, traversing the vast landscapes of the United States while showcasing our performances in each major city. The thrill of being on tour was truly exhilarating!

After completing his education at Coral Gables High School in Florida, he subsequently obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drama from Southern Methodist University, located in Dallas.

Prior to gaining fame on Happy Days, she previously appeared as Ethel ‘Sunshine’ Akalino in the brief television series Blansky’s Beauties. Later, she joined the cast of Happy Days, working alongside Scott Baio.

Initially, she made an appearance on the program during Season 4 in a temporary role as Kim. Later, she reappeared in Season 5, portraying Lori Beth, the affectionate girlfriend and future wife of Richie Cunningham, who was well-liked by viewers.

For eight seasons, Goodfriend was a beloved fixture and regular appearance on the program, winning over viewers with his charm.

Apart from her success in sitcoms, she also starred in multiple movies directed by Garry Marshall, such as Pretty Woman, Beaches, Nothing in Common, and Exit to Eden.

Apart from that, she graced the Broadway stage in “Good News” (1974), and she was featured in timeless performances such as “Fiddler on the Roof,” “West Side Story,” and “She Loves Me.

In the background, she oversaw television productions, which included the initial episode Four Stars, as well as a short film titled The Perfect Crime, released in 2009.

In addition to his accomplishments, Goodfriend established the Actors Workout Theater and School in NoHo, dedicated time to talent management roles, and now holds a position as the head of the acting department at the New York Film Academy.
