The creators responsible for the critically acclaimed 2024 Netflix thriller, Baby Reindeer, have discussed a particularly poignant scene that ultimately did not appear in the finished product.
Benjamin Gerstein and Peter Oliver are both nominated for the Editing: Fiction award at the BAFTA TV Craft Awards, competing against the teams behind “Mr. Bates vs the Post Office”, “Slow Horses”, and “The Day of the Jackal”.
Prior to this weekend’s ceremony, the pair discussed which scene they fervently hoped would appear on-screen.
Gerstein explained to Reach, as reported by The Express, that scenes often removed during editing are typically eliminated for a specific purpose.
Occasionally, it’s necessary to sacrifice cherished scenes for a storyline or sequence to flow more effectively.

“Having said that,” he continued, “there was a bar fight I really liked that we ended up losing.”
He concluded that it was both sad and amusing, yet seemed out of place as the storyline intensified and moved quickly toward its conclusion.

Oliver didn’t elaborate on additional deleted scenes, but mentioned: “I have some cherished ones in mind, however. The majority of the episodes were extended due to ‘Baby Reindeer’, so only the exceptional ones made it into the final version.
I enjoy starting with extensive episode compilations as it challenges us to condense and refine the content for a tighter, cohesive flow that fits perfectly within our timeframe.
The revised version of the animated series “Baby Reindeer” was incredibly well-received by both viewers and critics. It quickly climbed to the number ten spot in Netflix’s most-watched shows, with many praising it as “extraordinary” and a “must-watch”.
