Sydney Sweeney in Split Fiction
As a gaming aficionado, I’m always on the lookout for memorable characters, and when it comes to American actresses, Sydney Sweeney truly stands out! She’s made a name for herself by portraying Cassie Howard in Euphoria, Olivia Mossbacher in The White Lotus, and even Julia Cornwall in Madame Web.
According to a Variety report, it seems she’s being cast as the lead in the upcoming live-action version of Split Fiction. The movie will be helmed by Jon M. Chu, who previously directed Wicked and Crazy Rich Asians.
At this moment when I’m writing, there’s no known detail about who among the two main characters in Split Fiction, Zoe and Mio, actress Sweeney will portray.
What we know about the Split Fiction live-action movie
On March 6, 2025, Split Fiction was debuted, yet news of a live-action adaptation started circulating the same month. According to Variety, this adaptation sparked fierce competition among leading Hollywood studios at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. As time went on, we uncovered more and more information about the upcoming movie.
Sydney Sweeney has been unveiled as the initial cast member for this project. Moreover, it’s worth noting that the acclaimed filmmaker Jon M. Chu will be at the helm, overseeing the adaptation.
Currently, it’s Story Kitchen (previously known as dj2 Entertainment) who will be responsible for creating this upcoming film. This production company was established by Mike Goldberg and Dmitri M. Johnson. Interestingly, Johnson has experience in video game adaptations; he has previously produced films like Sonic the Hedgehog, the Tomb Raider TV series, and the Life Is Strange show.
Story Kitchen has plans to create a movie adaptation for It Takes Two, another collaborative game developed by Hazelight Studios, who are also behind Split Fiction.
On top of Story Kitchen, Sweeney will also be the film’s executive producer.
Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are set to pen the script for this project. They have collaborated on the Deadpool films in the past, contributing to both Deadpool and the latest Deadpool & Wolverine installments.
