Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film, The Odyssey, is expected to be a major hit in 2026. Fans are excited to see his unique take on the famous ancient Greek story. Following the success of Oppenheimer – which earned Nolan his first Academy Award and grossed nearly a billion dollars – he’s tackling another epic story with a large, talented cast, bringing Homer’s classic poem to life on the big screen.
The upcoming film, The Odyssey, has already generated excitement with a preview trailer and a special IMAX presentation, showcasing director Christopher Nolan’s signature use of powerful music and impressive practical effects. However, the film has also drawn criticism for how Nolan has chosen to adapt the classic story. Now, that discussion is continuing, as musician Travis Scott has been added to the cast.
Travis Scott Joins Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’

Universal Pictures
A new trailer for The Odyssey debuted during the AFC Championship game, offering a first look at Kid Cudi’s role in the film. Viewers who saw the IMAX preview noticed some familiar scenes, but Cudi’s appearance – and especially a powerful scene where he passionately delivers a speech, forcefully striking his staff – really caught people’s attention. He joins an already impressive cast including Matt Damon, Tom Holland, and Zendaya. Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Cudi has worked with director Christopher Nolan.
Scott composed a song called “The Plan” specifically for Christopher Nolan’s complex time-travel movie, Tenet. Nolan was highly impressed with Scott’s work, describing it as “profound” in an interview with GQ.
Everything finally clicked into place when he shared his thoughts. He quickly grasped the complex musical and storytelling structure that Ludwig Goransson and I had been developing, and his understanding was both deep and meaningful.
Christopher Nolan recently surprised people by admitting his fondness for films like the Fast & Furious series. However, his working relationship with Ridley Scott was still unexpected. Few anticipated they’d team up for a movie based on The Odyssey, and even more surprisingly, Scott will actually appear in the film. While his role is expected to be small, Scott’s performance is already generating buzz and looks to be a memorable moment.
Travis Scott Is a Controversial Figure

NBC
Travis Scott is widely known for his music, but his name is also strongly linked to a tragic event. In 2021, ten people died and hundreds were injured at his Astroworld Festival, with criticism focused on the event organizers’ response. Scott briefly paused the show when he noticed someone in the crowd needed help, but then continued performing. Although a grand jury decided not to press criminal charges against him in 2023, the festival tragedy will likely always be a part of his public image.
Travis Scott is famous for his incredibly energetic concerts, where he often encourages fans to get intensely excited, sometimes to a point many consider unsafe. This behavior has led to criticism, and some are unhappy with his casting in the new film. Although Scott might be a capable actor, his past actions and the associations his name brings up have worried some fans of the director, Christopher Nolan. One fan, @fatherhoodist, even publicly questioned Nolan’s decision on social media, asking, “Why is Chris putting him in this movie?”
Many people are rushing to judge Scott without knowing the full story, assuming that rappers can’t be good actors. However, others argue he’s more than capable of proving them wrong. As one commenter, SuperSonic2905, put it, society often unfairly assumes all rappers lack acting ability.
‘The Odyssey’ Has Already Faced Controversy

Universal Pictures
Even before anyone mentioned Scott, viewers began noticing potential historical inaccuracies in the new adaptation of The Odyssey. Both historians and fans have commented on details like the helmet worn by the actor playing Odysseus and the armor of Agamemnon, suggesting they don’t fit the time period. Despite the story being a fantastical myth involving creatures like cyclopses, audiences seem to want the historical elements to be reasonably accurate.

As a huge cinema fan, I’ve been following the buzz around the upcoming Odyssey film, and it’s interesting to see some debate over the translation they’ve chosen. Apparently, the filmmakers are using Emily Wilson’s 2018 version of the epic poem, and not everyone is thrilled. Some scholars and other translators have taken issue with her work, because she’s updated some of the language to feel more modern and less harsh – for example, changing potentially offensive terms to simply ‘girl’ based on what she believes was the original intent. While she’s a really respected translator who clearly did her research, it seems like some people are hesitant to see such a classic work reinterpreted. Ultimately, though, Nolan apparently prefers Wilson’s version, and as a director known for his vision, it makes sense he’d go with the translation he feels best suits his film, even if it ruffles a few feathers among purists.
Even though Christopher Nolan’s new film, The Odyssey, isn’t out until July, it’s already generating buzz and some debate, which is typical for his big projects. With recent casting news involving Scott, and more announcements expected before the release, the film will likely remain a topic of public discussion for a while.
