“Paddington as you’ve never seen him before”: New musical premieres this November in London

This coming year in London, the highly anticipated musical theater show, titled “Paddington: The Musical,” will be unveiled for the first time, a creation by the talented Tom Fletcher of McFly fame.

The musical show featuring Michael Bond’s famous bear, which was earlier announced in December 2023, has been set to debut at London’s Savoy Theatre on 1 November. This production will offer a unique take on the iconic character, presenting him “unseen before” for a memorable musical journey.

The world premiere of a play written by Jessica Swale and directed by Luke Sheppard will begin accepting priority bookings starting on the 13th of May. Two days later, on the 15th of May, tickets will be available to the general public. Fletcher, who has also been featured on ‘The Voice UK’, is responsible for composing the music and lyrics for this production.

Fletcher expressed his privilege in a statement, stating that he is excited to work alongside talented creators like Jessica, Luke, Sonia [Friedman], and Eliza [Lumley] as they bring the tale of Paddington to life on stage.

Our beloved, distinctive bear is deeply ingrained in our national identity, and I recognize the immense duty we all share in preserving his tale. It’s more than thrilling; it’s a dream realized – we can’t wait to have you be part of our journey this Fall at the Savoy.

Swale expressed his gratitude by saying, “It’s truly an honor to share the tale of this cherished cultural emblem.” He emphasized that Paddington is not just a fictional character; instead, he symbolizes qualities such as hope, kindness, and acceptance. Therefore, it seems especially fitting to present this story on stage during these times.

Not only do we have an exceptional group, but Tom’s melodies are captivating even on the first listen, Luke is an extraordinary director, and our producers are genuinely devoted and passionate. It’s truly a privilege to embark on this journey with them all, as I eagerly anticipate sharing this delightful, humorous, and heartfelt tale.

After the announcement, Sheppard expressed his thoughts by stating that the upcoming show will feature a remarkable new soundtrack and emotionally impactful dialogue. Furthermore, he mentioned that Paddington will be portrayed in a way that is more captivating than ever before.
