What is known about Godzilla Minus Zero?
Takashi Yamazaki is back as the writer and director of the new Godzilla film, ‘Godzilla Minus Zero.’ Ryunosuke Kamiki and Minami Hamabe will also return to reprise their roles as Koichi Shikishima and Noriko Oishi, respectively. This marks the first Japanese film ever to be shot specifically for IMAX.
Kamiki expressed his excitement about joining the new film, especially after his experience with ‘Godzilla Minus One,’ which he considers a significant work in his career. He’s happy to be collaborating again with Director Takashi Yamazaki and the entire team. While he feels the pressure of working on a beloved Godzilla film, he assured fans he gave his all to create something everyone would enjoy.
As a huge cinema fan, I was so thrilled to hear Hamabe talk about returning as Noriko in Godzilla Minus Zero! She said she’s incredibly grateful to be back in that world, and honestly, she’s already buzzing with excitement for everyone to see it. What’s really cool is that Japan and the US are getting the film around the same time, so she’s really happy to share this amazing return of Godzilla with fans on both sides of the Pacific. She’s hoping everyone will absolutely love it, and I have a feeling we will!
As a huge Godzilla fan, I’m incredibly excited about Godzilla Minus Zero! Toho Studios and ROBOT are behind it, with the amazing visual effects work being done by Shirogumi Inc. They’re still filming, but the first film really blew everyone away when it came out in 2023 – critics and audiences loved it! It’s currently sitting at a phenomenal 99% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on over 200 reviews. And the biggest news? It just made history at the 2024 Academy Awards, becoming the first Godzilla film and a non-English language film to win the Oscar for Best Visual Effects! It’s a huge moment for the franchise and for international cinema.
