Who Are the MCU’s Young Avengers? Meet the New Generation of Heroes

For a long time, one of Marvel’s top-tier superhero groups has been the Young Avengers. Together, they represent the future generation of heroes, and a significant number of them are the descendants or associates of established Avengers. In the comic books, their legacy is unquestionable, but so far, the movie version has not assembled its newest members yet. With the upcoming Avengers film approaching, these characters might assemble in either Avengers: Doomsday (2026) or Avengers: Secret Wars (2027).

Currently, the Young Avengers squad is dispersed across Earth and beyond, in various corners of the multiverse. Though the team is slowly coming together, several members are yet to meet one another, while some aspire for greater recognition within the superhero fraternity. The current roster deviates significantly from its comic book counterpart, leaving room for any young Marvel Cinatic Universe hero to potentially join and shape the future of this new Young Avengers ensemble.

Cassie Was Introduced in Ant-Man

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Cassie Lang, daughter of Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), embarked on an intriguing journey. Unlike other Young Avengers, she made her initial appearance in 2015’s “Ant-Man”. Back then, Cassie was more a powerless young girl, yearning for a connection with her father. As the series progressed, she transformed into a superheroine in her own right. With exposure to quantum technology, she adopted a heroic persona – Stature, who can change size at will. Her intelligence is remarkable, making her an indispensable addition to any team.

Given her extensive background and proven leadership skills, it seems quite plausible that Cassie could take on the role of one of the founding members spearheading the Young Avengers. Her past experiences, such as leading a rebellion in the Quantum Realm, make her well-suited for guiding younger heroes. While it’s hard to predict what will happen before her next appearance, Ant-Man’s enduring popularity suggests that she may reappear in future stories, regardless of how Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania performed at the box office.

They Were Introduced in WandaVision

Among Marvel’s heroes, Wiccan and Speed stand out distinctively due to their unusual existence, as they were initially mere creations born from The Scarlet Witch’s mind. However, despite vanishing following the conclusion of WandaVision in 2021, these characters have continued to play significant roles within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). In the recent series, Agatha All Along, Wiccan, portrayed by Joe Locke, was resurrected as a teenager. With the assistance of Agatha Harkness, played by Kathryn Hahn, Wiccan also successfully revived his brother back to life.

Although Wiccan and Speed share ties with Wanda and Vision, their interactions with other Avengers and young superheroes have been limited. Yet, as Wiccan pursues locating Speed, there’s a high probability that these twins will join the Young Avengers team. Notably, Wiccan was one of the original members in the comics, and Speed soon followed his brother. Given their extensive links to the Avengers, it seems likely that they could guide the future generation of heroes.

She Was Fittingly Introduced in Hawkeye

It’s quite possible that Hawkeye, despite having no superpowers, often goes unrecognized. This unsung hero, who was one of the original Avengers, doesn’t always receive the recognition he deserves. Luckily, as Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) seems to be approaching retirement from his heroic duties, Kate Bishop is gearing up to step into his role. These two characters crossed paths in the 2021 series “Hawkeye,” and it didn’t take long for Kate to demonstrate that she was worthy of sharing the Hawkeye title with Clint.

In essence, Kate’s story aligns beautifully with the Young Avengers. The thrilling episodes of the 2012 ‘Avengers’ movie sparked her journey into becoming an expert archer, and it seems fitting that this would also prompt her to join a team. Interestingly, Kamala Khan has already invited Kate to join their ranks, suggesting she will be among the original members. As for the future, we can only speculate on the part Kate will play, but given her well-established heroic background, it seems her integration should run smoothly.

He Was Introduced in the Loki TV Show

In the fourth episode of “Loki” season 1, which aired in 2021, we were first introduced to Kid Loki. After taking Thor’s life, he was banished to the Void by an unspecified entity. During his childhood, he endured a bleak existence in a post-apocalyptic world, with only other Lokis for company. Despite the fearsome circumstances, young Loki managed remarkably well. He even participated in the battle against the dreadful creature Alioth, but his ultimate destiny remains uncertain.

It’s uncertain whether Young Loki will make a comeback, but excluding him might be a squandered chance. Loki is a highly beloved Marvel Cinematic Universe character, and Tom Hiddleston’s farewell in “Loki” doesn’t rule out the possibility of the character reappearing. Introducing Young Loki again could provide an opportunity to expand a cherished character’s role. Moreover, Jack Veal delivered a remarkable performance as Kid Loki, making him worthy of another shot.

He Was Introduced in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier

The Young Avengers lack a character equivalent to Captain America, yet they possess their own hero known as The Patriot. In the comic books, Eli Bradley emerged as a commander for the initial team. He inherited Captain America’s abilities and bore an additional responsibility of embodying a grandfather who suffered grave injustices at the hands of the United States government.

In 2021’s “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” Eli made his debut, demonstrating courage by challenging both Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes. So far, he hasn’t displayed any superpowers; even his comic book counterpart was powerless initially in the early issues of the series. It’s reasonable to speculate that Marvel Studios has plans for Eli as the potential star of the Young Avengers.

He Was Introduced in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier

Similar to Eli, Joaquin made his appearance in “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier”. However, unlike Eli, Joaquin was an active hero from the start. Joaquin had teamed up with Sam Wilson on Air Force missions, and it wasn’t long before he demonstrated immense value. He was such a steadfast companion that Sam eventually consented to have him succeed as the Falcon after assuming the Captain America role. Since then, Joaquin has been a hero without fail.

In the aftermath of my brutal wounding in “Captain America: Brave New World,” I’m gearing up to play a pivotal role in reviving the Avengers. The future remains uncertain as to whether I’ll join their ranks or find myself amongst the Young Avengers. Regardless, I, Joaquin, am ready to step into my role as a young, promising hero, set to make a significant impact in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Kamala Khan Was Introduced in Ms. Marvel

In the comics, Kamala Khan hasn’t been part of the Young Avengers, usually associated with the Champions, the Inhumans, or the X-Men. However, the MCU intends to introduce a fresh role for her character in 2022, as she wields light as Ms. Marvel. Despite Captain Marvel being unaware of it, Kamala had been loyal all along.

Despite The Marvels (2023) flopping financially, Kamala Khan’s role within the Young Avengers remains secure. In fact, she’s been busy inviting other team members, starting with Kate Bishop. If she were to miss the initial gathering of the Young Avengers, it would be a surprising plot development. Iman Vellani has managed to carve out an enduring presence in this cinematic universe.

She Was Introduced in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

As a gamer, let me tell you, I’d be thrilled to have the ability to traverse the multiverse like America Chavez in the Marvel Cinematic Universe! Even characters like Wanda Maximoff can’t help but admire her power, and I bet both heroes and villains will seek her out as a valuable ally or threat, given the unfolding Multiverse Saga. With a storyline that seems tailor-made for her, America could be instrumental in uniting our team of superheroes.

Initially, America Chavez was absent from the team, but swiftly established herself as an indispensable member. Her tale is closely connected with those of the other young superheroes, a fact evident in Young Avengers vol 2. She’s currently apprenticing under Doctor Strange and her links to the multiverse might be beneficial for the team in Avengers: Doomsday. It’s clear that America is destined to join the MCU’s Young Avengers.

She Was Introduced in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

Though Iron Man might be gone, a worthy successor has stepped up to the plate – Riri Williams, who’s been refining her own suit with Shuri’s help (Letitia Wright). As Ironheart, Riri has gained valuable experience in the field and isn’t backing down from challenges. She’s clashed with Namor and the Atlanteans, taken on the U.S government, and is ready for whatever comes next.

It’s difficult to envision Ironheart absent from major conflicts, given her strong bond with Wakanda. If the Young Avengers unite, it’s almost certain that she will return to Wakanda to get back her suit. In 2026, Riri is set to feature in a miniseries that may strengthen her ties with other Young Avengers. Although she might not lead the team, based on her name, she could potentially embody its spirit.
