Harry Potter Stars Cash In As They Slam J.K. Rowling!
For approximately seven years, author J.K. Rowling has faced allegations of being transphobic, and more recently, she has identifed with the term ‘TERF’ (Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminist) for about five years.
Ever since her contentious opinions re-emerged following the recent Supreme Court gender ruling, I find myself utterly captivated by the reactions of those Harry Potter stars who’ve risen to stardom and wealth. Some are voicing their support while others are quick to criticize her stance, and it’s all I can think about!
In 2020, during a wave of criticism towards J.K. Rowling, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint publicly expressed their support for the transgender community and gender identity issues, distancing themselves from the author’s views.
In response to allegations that he was unappreciative of his achievements, Radcliffe countered by stating that he doesn’t owe gratitude for what he genuinely feels, while Watson expressed the viewpoint that transgender individuals should be allowed to live their lives freely, without constant scrutiny. Grint concurred with her sentiments on this matter.
However, other stars have voiced their dismay over J.K. Rowling’s actions, with Robbie Coltrane stating that nothing she said was “offensive” back in 2020. Ralph Fiennes, on the other hand, couldn’t comprehend the “vitriol” aimed at her in 2021. In 2022, Helena Bonham Carter defended Rowling, stating she had been “hounded” and was entitled to her opinion.
Many individuals have chosen not to take a clear stance, instead keeping their opinions undisclosed or remaining silent. For instance, Jason Isaacs disagrees with J.K. Rowling’s viewpoints but acknowledges her charitable deeds, while Evanna Lynch encourages people to show more understanding and kindness towards the author.
This week, it was Sean Biggerstaff, known for his role as Gryffindor Quidditch captain in three films, who joined the ranks of critics against J.K. Rowling. He labeled her a ‘bigot’ and drew a parallel between her recent actions and those of Andrew Tate, following her endorsement of the Supreme Court’s decision.
His recent outburst on Twitter was triggered by a ruling from London judges last week, stating that within the 2010 Equality Act, the term ‘women’ is exclusively defined as biological females. It has been reported that J.K. Rowling contributed financially to the campaign group behind this legal case.
Despite openly criticizing J.K. Rowling online, Biggerstaff remains engaged in the broader realm of the Harry Potter universe that she built, capitalizing on opportunities such as attending Comic-Con and various conventions.
As a die-hard Harry Potter fan, I too have found myself in a bit of a pickle when it comes to J.K. Rowling’s recent statements. Despite some strong opinions she’s expressed that I don’t agree with, I can’t help but admire the magic she brought into our lives through the Harry Potter series. Here’s the list of fellow Potter stars who share my conundrum:
1. Daniel Radcliffe – The Boy Who Lived himself has openly disagreed with Rowling on certain matters, yet he continues to stand by the enchanting world she created.
2. Emma Watson – Hermione Granger is as intelligent and thoughtful in real life as she was in the books, and she’s made it clear that while she may not always see eye-to-eye with Rowling, she will always cherish the character she played.
3. Rupert Grint – Ron Weasley has expressed similar feelings, showing support for the series despite having differing opinions from Rowling on certain issues.
4. Tom Felton – Draco Malfoy, the Slytherin we all love to hate, has also made it known that he respects Rowling’s work while disagreeing with her on some matters.

RUPERT GRINT: RON WEASLEY
Appearances in Harry Potter: All eight movies

Together with his fellow actors Radcliffe and Watson, Grint, aged 36, has earlier joined in a debate about transphobic comments following Rowling’s criticism of an online article.
In the year 2020, Rowling stirred up controversy online when she expressed disagreement with an article that used the term “people who menstruate” and posted a strong reaction on platform X.
I believe there was once a term for such individuals. Can anyone remind me? Was it ‘Wumben’, perhaps ‘Wimpund’ or maybe ‘Woomud’? This post has led some to categorize her as a Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminist (TERF).
Later on, J.K. Rowling wrote an essay as a response to the controversy, disclosing that she had experienced sexual assault in her twenties and expressing that she continues to bear the emotional scars from ‘domestic abuse’ during her first marriage.
In the midst of the digital debate, Grint publicly expressed his backing for the transgender community by stating that he does not align with Rowling’s use of language exclusionary towards transgender individuals.
In an interview with The Times, Rupert stated his strong support for the transgender community, aligning himself with the views shared by many others in similar positions.
‘Transgender women are females, just as transgender men are males. Everyone deserves to live with affection and free from prejudice.’
J.K. Rowling has continued to make several playful criticisms towards Harry Potter’s main actors, stating that she harbors lasting resentment towards the trio for expressing their dissent against her publically.

As a lifestyle enthusiast, I’ve been reflecting on this intriguing question: “Which actor or actress can make a film less enjoyable for me?” Here’s my honest take.
Rowling wrote: ‘Three guesses. Sorry, but that was irresistible.’
Last April, she clearly expressed that she wouldn’t be able to forgive Radcliffe and Watson because she believed they were overly supportive of a movement aiming to undermine the rights women have fought so hard for.
She criticized stars for supporting the transition of minors on their “platforms” following the publication of the highly anticipated Cass report on gender treatments in the UK.
The study funded by the government concluded that the evidence supporting the use of gender-affirming methods like puberty blockers in children is surprisingly limited.
When one fan stated that they would only apologize publicly once Dan and Emma (Watson) had done so, feeling secure knowing J.K. Rowling would pardon them, she responded saying: “I’m sorry to inform you that their apology won’t guarantee safety in my eyes.
Stars who got too close to a movement that sought to undermine women’s earned rights, and who cheered on the transitioning of minors without proper consideration, might want to reserve their apologies for those who have been traumatized by de-transitioning and women who depend on single-sex spaces for safety and privacy.
As a devoted fan, I haven’t heard any public response yet from Dan, Emma, or Rupert regarding J.K. Rowling’s backing of the Supreme Court decision.
Regardless of his distance from J.K. Rowling, Grint remains connected to the broader Harry Potter community, frequently participating in fan events such as conventions, bringing great joy to enthusiasts.

He went to conventions as late as November 2024, specifically at the Liverpool Comic Con 2024 held on November 9th, where he was present.
The actor was captured having fun and conversing with Harry Potter enthusiasts, and his itinerary featured photo opportunities not only one-on-one but also with his fellow cast members from the Weasley family in the films.
In addition, Grint was present at the 2024 London Film and Comic Con in July, while he also ventured to Paris in March 2024 for a gathering known as Enter The Wizard World.
At the start of “Wizard World”, Grint faced backlash because tickets were expensive, around £101, and if you wanted a selfie with him, that would be another £111.)
Additionally, he provided an opportunity for a select gathering of no more than thirty individuals to engage in a thirty-minute conversation with him; however, this exclusive experience came at a significant price tag of £298 per participant.
Previously, he tended to stay away from significant fan gatherings during the year prior, with his sole appearance being at the German Comic Con held in Dortmund in December 2022.
Among the main trio, Grint appears to be the one most immersed in the world of Harry Potter, unlike Radcliffe and Watson who don’t capitalize on such occasions by participating or profiting from them.
Recently, Watson hasn’t been spotted at any fan events like conventions, whereas Radcliffe’s latest known public appearance took place in 2022, specifically at the New York Comic Con; it seems to be his only one from recent times.
It’s thought that Grint hasn’t agreed to attend any forthcoming conventions as of now, and there are no scheduled appearances listed on his online calendar at this time.

BONNIE WRIGHT: GINNY WEASLEY
Appearances in Harry Potter: All eight movies

Bonnie Wright, along with several of her fellow actors, expressed their opinions following J.K. Rowling’s 2020 essay. This essay was published after Rowling made remarks that suggested only women experience menstruation, a viewpoint considered exclusionary towards transgender individuals.
Bonnie Wright, known for portraying Harry Potter’s love interest Ginny Weasley, quickly addressed the situation on social media following the commotion, explaining her stance on the issue.
Instead of explicitly mentioning J.K. Rowling, she unequivocally expressed her stance by tweeting, “Transwomen are women.
In her writing, she expressed: ‘If Harry Potter served as a wellspring of affection and sense of belonging for you, know that this love has no bounds and is always available, free from scrutiny or query.’
‘Transwomen are Women. I see and love you, Bonnie x.’
Following a wave of criticism from J.K. Rowling’s fans, who felt she was undermining the source of her success, Wright eventually decided to refrain from discussing the matter any further.
As a connoisseur of life, I expressed my thoughts on that matter in the past and I continue to hold those sentiments firmly. However, I find myself drawn less towards making further comments on the subject, as reported by The Sunday Times.
‘It’s a subject outside of my input.’

J.K. Rowling maintains a consistent presence within the world of Harry Potter and frequently appears alongside her on-screen co-stars James and Oliver Phelps, who portrayed Fred and George Weasley in the series.
At MegaCon Orlando 2025 in Florida, held on February 9, she was joined by two identical siblings. They all graced the stage that day, engaging with the audience by responding to questions about the magical realm.
Recently, Wright was spotted at the Fan Expo in Vancouver on February 21. This event followed her attendance at the German Film and Comic Con in Dortmund on December 7, 2024, only a few months prior.
Between June and November 2024, over a span of five months, Wright participated in an impressive total of seven international conventions, which took place in various locations such as Toulouse, Salt Lake City, Portland, and Niagara Falls.
Previously, Wright orchestrated the “Back to Hogwarts” festivities held in New York City. This annual event brings together enthusiasts to commemorate the day when the Hogwarts Express departs for the magical school each September.
At Grand Central Terminal, Kierra Lewis, a popular TikToker and enthusiastic fan, orchestrated the festivities. As the clock ticked down to the train’s departure, Wright graced us with his presence for a memorable moment.
Continuing at a rapid pace, Wright is scheduled to attend the Bell County Comic Con in Belton on August 2nd and the Arkansas Comic Con on September 12th as well.
KATIE LEUNG: CHO CHANG
As your go-to lifestyle guide, I’ve had the pleasure of immersing myself in the enchanting world of Harry Potter through three captivating films: “The Goblet of Fire,” “The Order of the Phoenix,” and “The Deathly Hallows: Part 2.” Each of these cinematic masterpieces offers a unique, spellbinding journey that every Potterhead should experience at least once.

In response to the criticism leveled against J.K. Rowling for alleged transphobia in 2020, Katie Leung, famously known for her role as Cho Chang in Harry Potter, voiced her opinions on the matter. However, Rowling has maintained that these accusations are not true.
Following a tweet from the billionaire author countering an article that used the term “people who menstruate”, Leung, aged 37, voiced his support for individuals identifying within the LGBTQ+ community.
A Scottish actress, born to parents hailing from Hong Kong, portrayed the character of Cho, an Asian witch. In previous times, J.K. Rowling’s representation of this character has faced criticism.
Following a call for their insights on the ongoing debate, Katie expressed her views on Cho Chang via Twitter, once known as X, saying: “Alright, you’ve asked for my opinions, so here they are…” (series of tweets)
Afterwards, she posted tweets containing links to petitions and movements advocating for black LGBT individuals, using the hashtag #AsiansForBlackLives, which brought attention back to the global uproar sparked by the death of George Floyd, an American civilian, at the hands of the police.
It wasn’t immediately apparent if her posts were specifically addressing the criticism levied at J.K. Rowling, but Leung purposefully utilized her platform to champion transgender rights and combat racism instead.
Recently, Leung has consistently attended Harry Potter fan events, such as the most recent one alongside Tom Felton at the German Potter Convention held on April 19.
In addition, she made an appearance at a different installment of that same event in September 2024, and teamed up with her fellow actors at the Comic, Movie, and Anime Festival in July 2023.
She intends to go to the Brussels Comic Con in May, which is happening within a few weeks, and she’s scheduled to be there.

CHRIS RANKIN: PERCY WEASLEY
6 Harry Potter films that include: The Sorcerer’s Stone, The Chamber of Secrets, The Knight’s Templar, The Order of the Phoenix, and The Deathly Hallows’ Divided into two parts.

Among the initial cast members from the movie series, Chris Rankin was among those who publicly voiced his disagreement with J.K. Rowling and expressed support for the transgender community.
The actor, known for portraying Ron’s elder brother Percy, expressed solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community, encouraging them to take pride in their identities.
He expressed on Twitter: “My dear, courageous, resilient trans comrades and extended House of #ChrisNess (his queer youth network) family, we adore you. It’s hard to express just how much, but know that it’s endless.
You have an amazing quality about you that makes you truly special. Remember this and take pride in it. We admire you for being uniquely you.
Rankin recently made his X account private, yet in 2021, he reiterated his stance and passionately voiced his support for the transgender community once more.
He mentioned that a significant number of his relatives are part of the local community, implying that it’s likely where his loyalties reside as well.
When someone openly identifies as a man or woman (transgender individual), it’s essential to respect their identity. Misgendering them can cause harm, so it’s crucial to address them in the way they prefer.
On his website, Rankin is referred to as an advocate for the LGBTQ+ community. He’s had the honor of hosting events at Pride Cymru more than once.
He has additionally established the ChrisNess House, an online gathering place that assists in fundraising for charities supporting the LGBTQ+ community.
Since gaining fame as a teenager in the Harry Potter film series, Rankin has remained an active participant within the Harry Potter realm, maintaining his role for eleven years.
2024 saw him participating in six different conventions. These included the Liverpool Comic Con held in November, Comic Con Mania in Derby, Leaky Con Portland in both July and March, as well as the Carlisle Comic Con in March.
In November 2023, Rankin attended the Ironton Wizardfest, while he’s scheduled to appear at the London Film and Comic Con in July. He’s expected to be highlighted in their promotions.

SEAN BIGGERSTAFF: OLIVER WOOD
Harry Potter Series: Three Films – ‘The Sorcerer’s Stone’, ‘The Chamber of Secrets’, and ‘The Deathly Hallows: Part 2’ (an unacknowledged brief appearance)

On social media, Sean Biggerstaff criticized JK Rowling harshly, labeling her as a “preoccupied billionaire” and “biased” due to her opinions on transgender rights.
More recently, the cast member Biggerstaff, who portrayed Oliver Wood, strongly criticized J.K. Rowling following her jubilant response to a Supreme Court decision.
In a show of unity, Biggerstaff expressed support for the main actors of the Harry Potter series – Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson – as they have publicly voiced their opinions against J.K. Rowling.
In reply to Rowling’s contentious social media post concerning the Supreme Court decision, Biggerstaff countered with his critique. The post in question showed Rowling raising a toast and puffing on a cigar aboard her $150 million luxury yacht, a gesture of celebration.
After the wealthy writer faced allegations she was puffing on marijuana (a “blunt”), she defended herself on social media, stating emphatically that it was undeniably, clearly evident, and easily proven to be a cigar instead.
Bigotry erodes intelligence,” or simply put, “Intolerance undermines wisdom.
Additionally, he expressed approval towards an individual who was likened to Andrew Tate due to smoking a cigar, a habit reminiscent of his actions in his own recordings. Some contend that this similarity fuels aggression towards women.
The post humorously stated: “Ha ha, puffing on a cigar, is that you, Andrew Tate?” and Biggerstaff shared the same message in his own timeline.
J.K. Rowling posted a photo featuring Susan Smith and Marion Calder, the directors of For Women Scotland, rejoicing over the decision, and urged everyone to respect the strength and determination of Scottish women.

Most Scottish women, who disagree with these individuals, aren’t financially backed by a fanatical billionaire,” alluding to allegations that Rowling was involved in funding the cause.
Additionally, he expressed support towards the prominent Harry Potter trio by rebuking a user who called Radcliffe, Watson, and Grint “ungrateful wretches” for voicing their opinions against J.K. Rowling. Instead, he inquired about their well-being.
There’s no mystery about it. They are thriving, enjoying life, without pushing their loved ones away due to their excessive, unfavorable fixations.
As a devoted admirer, I myself want to clear the air about the allegations that have been tossed around regarding J.K. Rowling, the billionaire author whose magical world of Harry Potter is being brought to life anew on TV. Contrary to some claims, she was not excommunicated nor defamed for her perspectives.
In response to a single post, Biggerstaff humorously commented, “If being exiled means having around £1 billion, count me in!
In a subsequent series of posts, Biggerstaff expressed additional views in support of the transgender community while voicing his disagreement with the Supreme Court decision. He contended that some of the most vocal individuals were employing worries about sex-based rights as a disguise for politically reactive agendas.
Today, it seems like everyone is mindlessly ignorant on purpose. They’re putting up a show of practicality to mask their inherent dislike towards those who are different from them, as he pointed out in another comment.
As a lifestyle connoisseur, I may not be directly associated with J.K. Rowling personally, but my affection for the broader Harry Potter realm remains undiminished. In fact, you can often find me immersed in the vibrant community at fan conventions – just last February, I was there, living and breathing all things Hogwarts!
Often, he participates in events like conventions and fan meetings, even signing autographs at places such as the Gilbert-Joseph bookstore in France just this past February 2025.
In addition, Biggerstaff participated in another event in Italy during December 2024, and graced the New England WizardFest & Magic Convention held in Boxborough, Massachusetts, back in August 2023.
At Em-Con Nottingham 2025 in June, you’ll find Biggerstaff gracing the stage. He’s eagerly carrying on his cherished character as the adored Quidditch captain of Gryffindor house.

TOM FELTON: DRACO MALFOY
Appearances in Harry Potter: All eight movies

Tom Felton is widely known for portraying Draco Malfoy within the magical world of Harry Potter, winning over fans who often see him at fan events and enjoy his thematic content on social media platforms.
He hasn’t openly criticized J.K. Rowling but instead voiced his support for human rights, which seems to put some distance between them.
In response to questions about J.K. Rowling’s controversial statements in a 2022 interview, which led to criticism from the LGBTQ+ community, the actor, aged 37, chose not to criticize her but emphasized his stance as an advocate for love instead.
In a conversation with The Independent, he brushed aside inquiries by stating: “Initially, I’m not well-informed about the details of what was discussed. My dog requires a lot of my attention, which keeps me away from delving into such subjects.
In simpler terms, I advocate for individual freedom, open dialogue, universal human dignity, and compassion. Conversely, anything that doesn’t align with these values isn’t something I’m particularly interested in.
Yet, he made it clear that he and the Harry Potter movies were separate entities from J.K. Rowling, emphasizing that her involvement in the filmmaking process was less extensive than many might think.
He mentioned: “This fact serves to underscore that, despite Jo being the originator of these tales, she didn’t contribute significantly to the filmmaking aspect as some may assume. I believe I can count the times I saw her on set on one hand.
In 2020, when speaking with BBC Radio 4, Felton seemed neutral on the matter, expressing gratitude towards J.K. Rowling for kick-starting his career by saying he was “extremely thankful” to her.

He noted: ‘I frequently make a point of acknowledging that Harry Potter, in an extraordinary way, has united people worldwide and spanned generations more effectively than anything else over the past two decades. I am quick to appreciate this phenomenon. It all originated from one individual – J.K. Rowling – so I am deeply grateful.’
Felton remains an active participant within the Harry Potter community, often gracing events like Comic Con and yearly gatherings of fans.
In adherence to my commitment, I’ve chosen silence regarding the recent stir caused by the Supreme Court decision, even when I shared a Harry Potter-themed post this week.
Instead of getting involved, he posted a picture on Instagram late Monday, featuring him next to a Platform 9 3/4 sign, alluding to the well-known railway platform from the Harry Potter series.
Additionally, Felton waved a sign with his likeness on it that said “Recognize this sorcerer?” as he wore a sweater decorated with the Slytherin serpent symbol.
Apart from his enchanting performances on social media, Felton also made an appearance at the German Potter Convention in Bad Honnef on April 19, 2025, only a few days following the decision’s announcement.
Additionally, he took part in the Wizard World event held in Paris during November, and was present at both the Comic, Film and Manga Festivals in Rotterdam and Paris, which took place in March of 2024.
In addition, Felton traveled to Dortmund in December 2023 for the German Film and Comic Con. He’s also made appearances at various international events such as those held in Chicago, Moscow, Toulouse, and Stockholm.
At the moment, Felton doesn’t have any scheduled conventions, but he frequently works with his on-screen father Jason Isaacs (who played Lucius Malfoy). The two of them often create amusing videos together and recently participated in the 2020 #PottahChallenge on TikTok.
