Robert De Niro’s New Netflix Thriller ‘The Whisper Man’ Revealed

The much-anticipated Netflix adaptation of Alex North’s hit novel “The Whisper Man” has assembled a prestigious cast. Notably, Academy Award winner Robert De Niro will headline this gripping crime drama. Joining him are Michelle Monaghan, known for her roles in “The White Lotus” and “Mission: Impossible III”, Adam Scott from “Severance”, Michael Keaton of “Spotlight”, and several other talented actors. Initially, it was rumored that Netflix was considering the project by AGBO in 2022, but it wasn’t confirmed until February 2025. AGBO is the production company owned by Anthony and Joe Russo, who have directed numerous popular Marvel films and recently the sci-fi epic “The Electric State” for Netflix. The Russo brothers will be producing “The Whisper Man”.

As per Netflix, the movie will be based on North’s best-selling book from The New York Times. It revolves around a widowed author of crime novels whose young son gets kidnapped after they move to a new house for a fresh start. In search of help, the writer turns to his retired former detective father, uncovering a link to a cold case involving a notorious serial killer known as “The Whisper Man.” Joining the cast are John Carroll Lynch (known for The Founder and Fargo), Hamish Linklater (Midnight Mass and Nickel Boys), Owen Teague (It and You Hurt My Feelings), and Acston Luca Porto (Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado).

In a new collaboration, “The Whisper Man” marks the sixth time Netflix teams up with AGBO. James Ashcroft, known for “The Rule of Jenny Pen” and “Coming Home in the Dark”, will take the director’s chair, while Ben Jacoby (“The First Omen”) and Chase Palmer (“It”) will handle the script. Angela Russo-Otstot, AGBO’s CEO, expresses gratitude for their ongoing partnership with Netflix and is thrilled to welcome acting legend Robert De Niro to the project.

Robert De Niro Is Currently Starring In Another Netflix Production

Prior to catching Robert De Niro in “The Whisper Man”, viewers can first enjoy him as a former president, prosecutor, and Vietnam veteran in the Netflix political thriller, “Zero Day”. This American-set production made its debut on February 20, 2025, with De Niro portraying George Mullen, the head of a special commission tasked with identifying the culprits behind the “Zero Day” incident – a lethal cyberattack that caused numerous casualties. In response to these tragic events, his successor granted Mullen the authority to lead the investigation.

In the series titled “Zero Day“, renowned actor Robert De Niro takes center stage for his debut on television. The supporting cast includes Lizzy Caplan as Alexandra Mullen (George’s estranged daughter), Jesse Plemons as Roger Carlson, Joan Allen as Sheila Mullen, and Connie Britton as Valerie Whitesell. Bill Camp, Dan Stevens, Matthew Modine, Angela Bassett, and McKinley Belcher III also join the ensemble. Despite having a 54% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it appears that viewers’ opinions differ from those of critics regarding this show.

The Whisper Man enters production this spring, but there’s no release date yet.
