Netflix’s new crime drama Dept. Q has landed a release date and unveiled a first look at its cast.
In the forthcoming TV show, which is adapted from novels of the same title by Danish author Jussi Adler-Olsen, Matthew Goode from ‘Downton Abbey’ plays DCI Carl Morck. After experiencing a distressing event, Morck goes back to work and is tasked with heading a newly formed cold case team called Department Q.
Initially, the dispirited police officer finds satisfaction in idling his time, yet his innate detective senses eventually stir back to life. Consequently, his fresh assignment attracts an eclectic group of nonconformists and rule-breakers.
Netflix has officially announced that the anticipated nine-episode series is set to debut on the 25th of May, meaning eager fans won’t have to hold their breath for much longer!
The streamer unveiled some initial photographs from the show, capturing Goode in character as the main detective, working with his fellow cast members.

I’m thrilled to share that Kelly Macdonald from “Line of Duty” is joining the cast as Dr Rachel Irving, Mark Bonnar steps into the role of Stephen Burns, Kate Dickie takes on Detective Chief Superintendent Moira Jacobson, and Chloe Pirrie portrays Merritt Lingard in our upcoming project.
In addition to the main actors, you’ll find Jamie Sives, Alexej Manvelov, Leah Byrne, Shirley Henderson, and Tom Bulpett in this production as well.
Dept Q, which is set in Edinburgh, is written and directed by The Queen’s Gambit‘s Scott Frank.

In an interview with Tudum, Goode hinted at further details about the show, mentioning that when the story begins, a 16-year-old mystery in Aberdeen has already been resolved.
The appearance is quite appealing due to the current shortage of funds and rising crime statistics.
Kate Dickie’s character, who holds a leadership role within the police force, is advised by her superiors to establish a cold case unit. Given her desire to monitor Carl, she assigns him as the leader of this unit, stationing him in the basement.
Dept Q will arrive on Netflix on 25 May.
