5 Major Actors Rejected Star Wars: Starfighter Roles in 2027 Movie Shocker

In the reports about Star Wars: Starfighter casting, it seems not all Hollywood stars share the same enthusiasm for making an appearance in a distant galaxy. As a follower, I too find myself questioning who among them would be willing to embark on such interstellar adventures.

Under the guidance of director Shawn Levy, the movie titled “Star Wars: Starfighter” unfolds five years post-The Rise of Skywalker. It is said to center around a 15-year-old boy and his uncle, who is portrayed by Ryan Gosling.

Star Wars: Starfighter is set to release in theaters on May 28, 2027.

Star Wars: Starfighter Failed To Cast These 5 Actors

Apart from the fact that Shawn Levy and Ryan Gosling are working on it, and that it takes place after the original Star Wars trilogy, Lucasfilm hasn’t shared any additional information about the movie titled Star Wars: Starfighter as of now.

Moreover, the insider Daniel Richtman didn’t just reveal the movie’s uncle-nephew plotline, but also the high-profile actor that Lucasfilm struggled to secure for the role.

Jesse Plemons

As per Richtman, the characters portrayed by Ryan Gosling and his nephew are expected to face challenges from a pair of antagonists – one being male, the other female. Reportedly, Jesse Plemons was given the opportunity to play the male villain, but he declined the offer from Lucasfilm.

Jesse Plemons, who gained significant recognition through his role in “Friday Night Lights,” has established himself as a highly esteemed actor in Hollywood. His exceptional work in shows like “Breaking Bad,” “Fargo” on FX, “The Irishman,” “Civil War,” and most recently “The Power of the Dog” have contributed to this reputation. Notably, his performance in “The Power of the Dog” even landed him a nomination for the prestigious Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.

Jodie Comer

British actress Jodie Comer declined the opportunity to portray the female villain and one half of the antagonistic duo in the 2027 edition of “Star Wars,” opting against appearing in that movie.

Despite being relatively new to the scene, Comer has already made a mark in that distant, star-studded universe. In fact, she portrayed Rey’s mother in “The Rise of Skywalker”, a role that coincided with her career taking off following the releases of “The Last Duel”, “Killing Eve”, and “Free Guy”, all of which were helmed by Shawn Levy.

Mikey Madison

Following Jodie Comer declining the offer for the female antagonist role in Starfighter, Lucasfilm extended the part to the award-winning actress, Mikey Madison instead.

After her win at the Oscars for “Anora”, news about Lucasfilm’s interest in actress Madison and her subsequent decision-making, prior to Star Wars Celebration 2025, became a hot topic. Apart from her role in “Anora”, Madison has also been seen in films such as “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”, “Better Things”, and the 2022 version of “Scream”. It’s worth noting that Marvel Studios is rumored to have an MCU film in mind for which they would like Mikey Madison to be cast.

Sarah Snook

In another significant character appearance in “Star Wars: Starfighter”, we find the 15-year-old boy’s mother, who could be either the sister or wife of Gosling’s character. According to Richtman’s report, Australian actress Sarah Snook was initially given the part but chose not to accept it in the end.

Snook has gained recognition for her roles in films such as Steve Jobs, Black Mirror on Netflix, Succession, and The Glass Castle.

Greta Lee

The actress who Lucasfilm couldn’t get for Star Wars: Starfighter is Greta Lee, an actress and vocal talent, whose character was depicted as a cantina owner that the main cast meet during their mission.

I can’t help but admire Lee, who has made a name for herself by gracing the screens of Russian Doll, Past Lives, The Morning Show, and most recently, The Studio. This year, she’ll share the screen with Jared Leto in Disney’s highly anticipated Tron: Ares.

Why Did Actors Turn Down Star Wars: Starfighter?

It’s been suggested that some Hollywood stars may be reluctant to collaborate with Lucasfilm because of a series of abandoned projects. However, the specific reasons why these five actors declined offers to join the cast of Star Wars: Starfighter remain unknown and are likely diverse for each individual.

I must say, the fact that Shawn Levy and Ryan Gosling are part of this Star Wars venture lends a great deal of credibility to the project. Their presence has certainly piqued my interest even more, considering they’ve shared insights about it at Star Wars Celebration 2025.

Production on the new spaceship called Starfighter is starting this fall, so fans won’t have to wait too much longer for the official announcements about the actors cast in these roles, including Ryan Gosling’s teen co-star. It will be exciting to find out who will be chosen for each part.
