I Know What You Did Last Summer
Here’s a new take: The classic horror series “I Know What You Did Last Summer” has revealed its initial glimpse into the revival, with a captivating trailer that promises to reel you in. After providing a sneak peek at CinemaCon for some lucky attendees, everyone else can now catch a glimpse of the comeback of original actors Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt, along with the return of the chilling hook-bearing villain.
Under the guidance of director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson and scriptwriter Sam Lansky, the new take on I Know What You Did Last Summer appears to follow closely in the footsteps of the original film, but with a few unexpected turns to maintain interest. The story revolves around five friends who unintentionally become involved in a fatal car crash and decide to hide their part in it. A year later, they are tormented by their past actions as they realize that someone knows what they did the previous summer. As they are pursued by a lethal predator, they learn that similar events have occurred before, prompting them to seek help from two survivors of the Southport Massacre of 1997.
‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ Is a True Legacy Sequel
In a conversation on the Scale Talk Podcast featuring David Miniatures, Prinze Jr. discussed their roles in the upcoming sequel. He clarified that although they aren’t the main characters, they have a significant impact on advancing the storyline. He praised Kaytin Robinson for skillfully developing the characters of Julie James (portrayed by Love) and Ray Bronson (played by Prinze Jr.), noting her attention to detail in their development.
“The actors are not the main characters of the film at all; instead, they significantly drive the rest of the cast forward. It’s not about ‘the Ray and Julie movie,’ as that statement doesn’t fit here because Ray is deceased. So, we must be talking about a new generation. The way she seamlessly integrates us with these characters is exquisitely done, and the script is exceptionally written.
Although it doesn’t seem like it will innovate the horror genre, it’s exciting to anticipate the return of Prinze Jr. and Hewitt on the big screen, working together once more to protect a fresh group of Southport children from the lethal Fisherman. Keep an eye out for I Know What You Did Last Summer, set to hit theaters nationwide on July 18, 2025, courtesy of Sony Pictures Releasing.
