Sheridan Smith’s forgotten ITV police drama trends after being quietly added to Netflix

Sheridan Smith’s ITV police drama Black Work has found a new lease of life on Netflix.

In 2015, a three-part drama titled “The series” premiered on ITV and featured Smith portraying police officer Jo Gillespie. A tragic event occurs when her husband, covert officer Ryan (played by Kenny Doughty), dies under mysterious circumstances, drastically altering Jo’s life.

Eager to find out the facts, Jo disregards instructions from those above and launches her own inquiry, exposing hidden aspects of Ryan’s covert operations.

The show titled “Black Work” quietly joined Netflix’s library last week and has steadily risen in popularity, currently ranking second among Netflix’s most-watched TV series in the United Kingdom.

It currently ranks above shows such as the latest release of “Black Mirror” Season 7 and Stephen Graham’s praised drama, “Adolescence.

Currently, Smith is preparing for another ITV drama titled “I Fought The Law,” which is inspired by Ann Ming’s 2008 memoir, “For The Love of Julie.

In simpler terms, Ming’s book narrates an account of a mother’s relentless pursuit of justice, aimed at bringing the person responsible for her daughter’s murder to trial. This grim discovery was made when her daughter’s body was found concealed behind a bathroom door in 1989.

As I step into the shoes of Ming for the ITV series, I’ve got to admit, the enormity of this role is leaving me a bit swamped. The anticipation is overwhelming!

“Having such an iconic and talented actress portray me is truly wonderful,” she added.

Recently, Smith has been announced as a part of the cast for the BBC’s forthcoming crime series titled “The Cage“, where he will be acting alongside Michael Socha who is renowned for his roles in Showtrial and Being Human.

In a crime drama set in Liverpool, the duo will portray Leanne and Matty, two employees of the same casino who uncover that each of them has been secretly trying to pilfer from the establishment’s safe.

In this scenario, Tony Schumacher, from “The Responder”, takes on the roles of both creator and scriptwriter. On the other hand, Al Mackay, associated with “Without Sin”, is slated to direct.
