Country superstar Riley Green makes surprising jabs at ex-girlfriend TWICE onstage at Florida music festival

Okay, so I was at Tortuga this weekend, and honestly, I was shocked! Riley Green, who I adore, totally threw some shade at an ex twice during his set! Like, in front of thousands of people! I couldn’t believe he’d air their dirty laundry like that, even if it did get a big reaction from the crowd. It was… a lot. I’m still processing it, honestly. He’s amazing, but that felt a little much.

The country music star, who was performing as the headliner Saturday night, started by saying, ‘I’m sorry to have to do this, but I need to share some difficult news.’

‘I’ve got to play y’all a song about my ex-girlfriend. She left, but she picked a damn good day to do it,’ he added before singing his track Damn Good Day to Leave.

Shortly after, Green, 37, jokingly said he needed to change the atmosphere and then performed another song about an ex-partner who still bothers him.

He explained that the song, called ‘Rather Be,’ is inspired by all the times she scolded him, when he found himself daydreaming about being anywhere else.

The singer didn’t say who he was referring to during the concert, but many people believe he was talking about his difficult past relationship with music executive Sophia Sansone.

The pair dated for about three years and first appeared as a couple publicly at the 2022 CMT Music Awards, but their breakup was reportedly difficult.

Thirty-one-year-old Sansone has been seen making critical comments about Green online, suggesting their past relationship was difficult and unstable. In one post, Sansone wrote, ‘I wouldn’t call my ex a winner.’

She discussed the situation on the ‘Probably a Podcast’ last December, explaining that things gradually deteriorated. She described it as a difficult time, admitting she was desperately clinging to the few positive moments that occurred.

Looking back, it’s just… heartbreaking. I thought I was with one person, completely fell for him, but it turns out I didn’t even know him. He wasn’t the man I believed he was, not at all. It’s like I was in love with a ghost, a phantom of who I thought he’d be. It’s devastating to realize I built everything on a lie.

The Daily Mail has reached out to Sansone for further comment.

After his last relationship ended, Green is now caught in a complicated love triangle involving his singing partner, Ella Langley, and rising country star Megan Moroney.

As a lifestyle observer, I’ve been following the buzz around Maisie Green and Jordan Langley – you might remember them from their popular songs ‘You Look Like You Love Me’ and ‘Don’t Mind If I Do’! People started speculating they were dating, and honestly, it’s easy to see why. Their connection onstage was undeniable, and a video of what looked like a kiss quickly went viral. It definitely got everyone talking!

Langley, 26, clarified to Taste of Country that she and Riley are just friends, not dating. She explained that Riley was likely the first celebrity she ever met, as they both frequented the same local bars and played at many of the same venues.

Interestingly, Green and Moroney were seen on vacation in St. Barts around the same time. Moroney previously addressed similar speculation in Rolling Stone, stating, ‘Just because we spend time together doesn’t mean we’re dating—you get what I’m saying?’

Green has publicly maintained that he is currently single.

Although Langley wasn’t at the Tortuga Music Festival, Green still played their hit song, and the crowd sang along with every word.

He briefly lost some audience support when he mentioned his grandfather’s fondness for Alabama football, especially since he was speaking in Florida.

He introduced the next song by saying it was dedicated to his grandfather, who was passionate about three things: Alabama football, among them, according to a clip from the Daily Mail.

The crowd at Fort Lauderdale beach reacted with loud boos when the speaker mentioned Alabama. One audience member commented, ‘He’s in Florida, so that felt a little off.’ They clearly didn’t appreciate the reference.

Green then appeared to try and regain the audience’s approval by joking, ‘You don’t need to be an Alabama fan to enjoy this song—you just have to not be a Tennessee fan, and that’s pretty easy!’

He then announced he would try to determine which team the Florida crowd favored, and started naming several teams. This again resulted in a combination of boos and cheers from the audience.

An audience member joked, ‘He’s like, “What the f**k do you guys like?”‘

Throughout the day, popular artists like The Fray, Tyler Hubbard, and Colbie Caillat performed on three stages. The three-day festival, sponsored by Bacardi Rum, also featured headliners Post Malone and Kenny Chesney, with great sets from Ice Cube, Dustin Lynch, and others.
