Rap group Kneecap claims pro-Palestine messages were cut from its Coachella set
Kneecap, the vocal Northern Irish hip-hop group, is renowned for their harsh criticism of Israel’s actions against Gaza during their performances. However, the band suspects that certain significant instances from their two Coachella sets were omitted from the festival’s live stream, leading them to question if their message may have been a factor in this decision.
During the band’s show at the festival’s second weekend, texts were displayed that read: “Israel is perpetrating genocide against the Palestinian people. This act is being supported by the U.S. government who provide arms and funding to Israel, despite their alleged war crimes. Stand for Freedom, Support Palestine.
Music
Three individuals, who call themselves the ‘Sunscreen Trio’, have journeyed over the Atlantic Ocean to play their music at the hallowed music venue in Indio on a Friday.
The band mentioned on social networks that those messages were intended for their Weekend 1 performance too. However, the messages about the US-backed genocide in Gaza didn’t show up on the screens during their set.
A representative from Goldenvoice, the event’s organizer, hasn’t responded yet to our request for a statement.
Over the opening weekend, the band is said to have initiated an exuberant cheer honoring the passing of Margaret Thatcher, who served as the UK’s Prime Minister in 2013. They claimed this cheer was later edited out during live streaming.
During the second weekend of Coachella, no performances from the Sonora Tent – the indoor venue known for hosting punk-inspired acts that helped establish Goldenvoice’s reputation – were broadcasted live. Onstage at this venue, it was reportedly stated that “the Irish are no longer oppressed by the British, but we’ve never been bombed under those skies with nowhere to escape.

Music
Though Tovar is no longer the owner of the music promotions company he established in 1981, his passion for music continues unabated. Each year, he attends the Coachella festival, along with numerous concerts and weekly club shows.
After performing at Coachella’s Weekend 2, the band shared some unfiltered messages, accompanied by pictures of their stage projections.
During the Coachella festival, the kneecap wasn’t the only one voicing criticism against Israel’s attacks on Gaza. Headline artists like Green Day modified the lyrics of “Jesus of Suburbia” to sing, “Escaping pain, just like children from Palestine.” Other acts such as Blonde Redhead and Bob Vylan displayed Palestinian flags on stage.
Scooter Braun, known for his work as a music manager and executive, shared on Instagram that Paul Tollett, the creator of Coachella, is a compassionate individual and has been a vocal ally for survivors of the Nova Music Festival tragedy.
