Actress Star Anneke Wills has shared a health update, expressing gratitude to followers on social media following a 10-day hospital stay. She conveyed her feelings of being humbled and thankful in the wake of her recent health incident.

Actress Polly Wright, known for her role as companion, shared with followers on social media that she had returned home following an alarming incident that began when she fell in her garden on Easter Sunday.

Anneke Wills Shares Positive Update After Heath Scare

She wrote, “I’m thankful that the farmers heard my cries for help and wrapped me in blankets on the frozen ground while we waited for hours until the ambulance arrived. Subsequently, I was transported to Torbay hospital with a broken hip and shoulder for ten days. This was my initial encounter with the NHS care teams’ incredible patience and kindness. It left me feeling humbled and grateful.

After her first hospital stay, it was arranged for her to move to a rehab facility for further recuperation and ongoing medical supervision.

For four weeks, she remained, rejuvenating and healing, with the angels once again by her side – friends she will forever be thankful for. Naturally, with everyone’s lives being so intertwined with technology, conversations about Doctor Who abounded. (She wrote this.)

“I was humbled and grateful.”

Wills’ comeback on social media was met with numerous goodwill messages from supporters, who expressed their hope for a swift recovery and sent their very finest wishes.

The actress became particularly famous for her role in nine episodes of ‘Doctor Who’ from 1966 to 1967, where she played opposite Michael Craze as Royal Navy recruit Ben Jackson and Polly. They made their debut together in “The War Machines” in June 1966, replacing the then-current companion Dodo (Jackie Lane) at the end of that series.

After that, Ben and Polly accompanied The First Doctor until his transformation in “The Tenth Planet,” which marked Patrick Troughton as the new main character in “Doctor Who,” replacing Hartnell. Later, Jamie McCrimmon, a Scottish piper played by Frazer Hines, joined them in the TARDIS during “The Highlanders.

Anneke Wills Made Her Screen Debut at Age 9

  • Wills was trained by the Arts Educational School and the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.
  • Prior to Doctor Who, she played Roberta in an early TV adaptation of The Railway Children and starred opposite future husband Michael Gough in the 1962 movie Candidate for Murder.
  • Wills has written numerous memoirs, including 2009’s Naked and 2012’s Anneke Wills – In Focus.

By 1967, the creators of “Doctor Who” decided it was time for a fresh start in the TARDIS. In the 1967 series titled “The Faceless Ones,” an extraordinary event occurred where the TARDIS returned to London during the year 1966 – the same era Ben and Polly originally hailed from. After assisting The Doctor in thwarting the schemes of a mysterious alien race called the Chameleons, Ben and Polly emotionally said their goodbyes to The Doctor and headed back home. Regrettably, due to BBC’s practice of discarding recordings, much of Ben and Polly’s time as companions with “Doctor Who” is lost in the archives.

It turns out that “The Faceless Ones” wasn’t the last time we saw Ben and Polly. In the 2017 Christmas special titled “Twice Upon a Time,” David Bradley reprised his role as the First Doctor to meet with the Twelfth Doctor (played by Peter Capaldi), just before the First Doctor’s regeneration in “The Tenth Planet.” Lily Travers, who played Polly in the series “The Sandman,” made a brief appearance, and Jared Garfield stepped into the role of Ben to link the two time periods.

Apart from my love for Doctor Who, I found myself immersed in the U.K. television scene throughout the ’60s and early ’70s. During this period, I had the pleasure of making guest appearances on shows like The Avengers and Strange Report. Later on, I was thrilled to reprise my role as Polly in a series of Doctor Who audio adventures produced by Big Finish.

Apart from being connected to “Doctor Who,” Willis was also married to actor Michael Gough from 1965 to 1979. Notably, Gough portrayed the Celestial Toymaker in a 1966 “Doctor Who” episode and Time Lord Councillor Hedin in the 1983 serial titled “Arc of Infinity.
