MAJOR spoilers follow for The Last of Us season 2, episode 2.
As a dedicated gamer diving headfirst into the post-apocalyptic world of “The Last of Us”, I can’t help but share my excitement over Gabriel Luna’s recent hints about what lies ahead after the jaw-dropping twist in season 2’s second episode, ‘Through the Valley’. What to Read Next
In this particular episode, Joel unexpectedly saved Abby from a group of infected concealed under the snow. However, unbeknownst to him, Abby harbored a desire for retribution due to the hospital massacre that Joel carried out towards the conclusion of season 1.
It came to light that Abby is the child of the Firefly surgeon, who was intended to perform surgery on Ellie in a bid to find a cure, but was killed by Joel before he had the chance. Despite Joel’s rescue of Abby from the horde, it didn’t sway her feelings, and she viciously attacked him.
Ellie made it to the manor, only to find herself walking into a room where Abby had fatally shot Joel. Now, Ellie is driven by a thirst for vengeance.
In a chat with Esquire, the actor who plays Tommy revealed some hints about the fate of his character following the death of his on-screen older brother.
He mentioned a later scene that picks up from the second episode. While he didn’t go into great detail, there seems to be a shift or changeover, much like passing a baton in a relay race.
It seemed as if the events unfolding in the narrative were mirroring those in our projects and productions. The anticipation for what’s next is palpable. Despite it being a heart-wrenching turn of events, the horizon broadens now.
Additionally, Luna shared how he felt upon learning that Tommy, not Dina, would be there when Joel met his demise in the game.
[Showrunner] Craig Mazin shared a lengthy manuscript with me, detailing the whereabouts and activities of Tommy. It left me utterly astounded, as my enthusiasm levels skyrocketed.
Thinking about the situation, I find myself having chills. The concept intrigues me – if roles were reversed, it would be Dina instead of Tommy in that scenario. Someone who continues to care for Joel deeply, viewing him as family, and would feel heartbroken when everything unfolds.
As a gamer, diving into the heart of a massive battle within this episode was an adrenaline-pumping yet nerve-wracking experience I couldn’t help but relish.
Luna noted gratefully that we were fortunate to have director Mark Mylod, who is skilled in handling big scenes, much like those seen on ‘Game of Thrones’.
“He’s able to balance beautiful cinematic vocabulary with what’s important from a character basis.”
As a dedicated fan, I can’t contain my excitement as I eagerly await the arrival of The Last of Us season 2 every Monday! In the UK, you can catch it twice daily on Sky Atlantic at 2am and 9pm. If you prefer to stream it, NOW is your go-to platform. For my friends across the pond in the US, it airs on HBO. Can’t wait to immerse myself in this post-apocalyptic world once more!
