You Won’t Believe the 1 Scene That SECRETLY Killed Off Captain Bobby Nash
This article contains spoilers for 9-1-1 season 8, episode 15, “Lab Rats”
9-1-1’s co-creator Tim Minear, who is also the showrunner, points out a scene from earlier in season 8 that hinted at the controversial character death of Captain Bobby Nash (played by Peter Krause). The passing of this longtime character due to a lethal virus in season 8 has left fans reeling since they’ve been following the first responder drama for years. Coming back on air after a two-week break, the ABC series will air the first of its final three episodes on May 1 at 8 PM ET. According to Minear, the signs suggesting Bobby’s demise were planted several months prior.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Minear discusses Bobby’s character’s death and shares that the fictional actor Brad Torrance served as a foreshadowing for it. The character portrayed by Callum Blue and appearing regularly in season 8, Torrance’s on-screen demise mirrored what was to come for Bobby, as Minear explains: “This was our way of subtly suggesting Bobby’s approaching end.
In episode eight, during the midseason finale, there’s a scene where the character Brad Torrance, played by Callum Blue, announces that his TV show character won’t wake up from a coma. A fan who was planning to jump in response says, “‘You can’t do this! He keeps the fire family united.’” This line subtly suggests my future plans for the storyline.
What This Means For 9-1-1
There Was More To Brad Than Meets The Eye
In an interview, Minear – one of the creators behind the hit series “9-1-1”, alongside Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk – spoke about the midseason finale. The narrative revolves around Brad’s character, who is considering leaving acting due to its impact on his family relationships. A critical moment occurs when he confides in a suicidal fan that the character he portrays on a make-believe fire show won’t regain consciousness from a coma. This sparks the fan to rethink their decision, suggesting that if Brad’s character can find a way to keep living, so can they.
Torrence experienced a significant turning point while riding along with the 118, causing Bobby no small amount of frustration. Eventually, Brad changed his mind about leaving acting and returned to his familiar role on a television network show. Bobby too found peace, mending fences with his mother and constructing a new home with Athena (Angela Bassett). This full life he had built for himself was tragically cut short by his untimely death, making it all the more shocking.
Our Take On Bobby’s Death Being Foreshadowed
In A Way, It Works
A case can be made that since Bobby was going to perish, it would have been beneficial to wrap up his storylines completely. However, the abrupt departure, leaving many questions unanswered, reflects the raw truth of the situation. This is why some viewers are finding it hard to accept his death as they prepare for 9-1-1 season 9, because until now, this series hasn’t typically ended in such grim fates for main characters.
