‘You Never Get Used To It!’ Think George Clooney’s Newly Dyed Hair Looks A Little Off? He’s Right There With You

If you’re familiar with George Clooney’s most renowned films, you might be accustomed to appreciating his undeniable charm, sleek silver hair, and timeless appearance. However, recently, viewers have been doing a double take. The man once known for playing Batman has replaced his iconic silver tresses with a surprisingly dark brunette hairstyle, which isn’t for an upcoming 2025 film, but for a role on Broadway. Rest assured, even the star himself finds this new look a bit unusual.

The Oscar winner is currently starring in the Broadway production of Good Night, and Good Luck, a stage adaptation of the 2005 film he directed and co-wrote, which is one of the best movies of the 2000s. To step into the role of iconic broadcast journalist Edward R. Murrow, the Ocean’s 11 actor traded his signature salt-and-pepper locks for a striking, jet-black dye job. And in a recent interview, posted to CBS Mornings’ official Instagram account, he admitted he’s just as unsettled by the look as everyone else:

I know, it’s [the dark hair look] not good…

The longtime star from “Up in the Air” responded briskly while chuckling, when Gayle King commented that she needed a moment to recognize him. King gently countered by saying, “I didn’t say it wasn’t impressive,” but the celebrity from Kentucky was firm in his response, quickly interjecting, “I know you didn’t!

I’ve never really taken to it, and I guess you can never truly grow accustomed to it. Gray hair became a part of me when I was 25, so it’s been the norm for most of my life. It’s not my preferred look, but my wife finds it amusing.

It’s understandable. Now, he might perceive his dark hair as a disguise instead of a reconnection with his heritage – a play on words indeed. However, I wonder what his children make of this fresh change in his hairstyle? The Academy Award-nominated director further commented:

…His kids find it amusing since, truthfully, there’s nothing that emphasizes age more than a person of 63 years still dyeing their hair.

This actor, after many years in Hollywood, has a fleeting, honest moment of self-reflection that typically evades those trying to avoid the age-related pitfalls in the industry.

The transformation is indeed thriving. “Good Night, and Good Luck” is generating a lot of positive buzz early on, and George Clooney’s portrayal of Edward Murrow marks his debut on Broadway. This performance has caught the eye of both fans and critics alike. His distinctive black hair adds to the 1950s newsman aesthetic, yet it has sparked some online confusion among the audience.

Nonetheless, as reported by The Daily Mail, the premiere event was graced by several prominent figures such as Jennifer Lopez, Uma Thurman, Cindy Crawford, Kaia Gerber, and Rande Gerber. This play is derived from an original film which garnered six Oscar nominations and showcased a gifted ensemble consisting of Robert Downey Jr. and Patricia Clarkson. The narrative revolves around Edward R. Murrow’s intense journalism during the McCarthy era. Clooney’s stage rendition presents this tale to a fresh audience, and despite a potentially debatable hair color change, he is prepared to tackle that undertaking head-on.

As a cinephile, I couldn’t contain my excitement when George Clooney graced Broadway with “Good Night, and Good Luck” on April 3rd! The buzz surrounding this production is palpable, so don’t wait – snatch your tickets before they vanish! And if you haven’t already, subscribe to Apple TV+ to catch his latest film, “Wolves,” which is now streaming. Mark your calendars for his upcoming movie, “Jay Kelly,” scheduled to premiere on the Netflix movie & TV schedule in 2025 – I can hardly wait!
