WoT Just Changed Rand FOREVER! You Missed This HUGE Detail!
Includes SPOILERS for The Wheel of Time season 3 finale and spoilers from the book series.
As a film enthusiast, I’ve been captivated by Amazon Prime Video’s “The Wheel of Time.” In the third season, the fate of Rand al’Thor took an unexpected turn, particularly concerning the Breaking of the White Tower saga. This plotline was pivotal throughout the season, culminating in Elaida, a member of the Red Ajah, seizing control of the order at the end of season 3, with the demise of Siuan Sanche marking a significant deviation from the books. However, there was another, more subtle twist that hints at Rand’s future, one I found intriguing and worth exploring further.
Rand al’Thor, who was brought up as a shepherd’s son from the Two Rivers, is actually the Dragon Reborn. This revelation at the end of season 2 altered everything across the world. Some will rally to support him, while others may try to manipulate or even eliminate him. Moiraine once told Siuan Sanche that in order for the Light to prevail in the Last Battle, they would need to unite the Aes Sedai behind Rand. Now, however, Siuan Sanche is no more, and Elaida intends to control Rand, taking away his abilities much like Logain was in season 1.
The Wheel Of Time Confirms It Only Takes Eight Women To Gentle A Man
The Number Is Thirteen In The Books
In the final episode of season 3, Siuan Sanche discerns that Elaida dispatched a group of eight Aes Sedai from the White Tower. Although it turns out later that this move was a ruse to allow Verin and other supporters of Siuan to depart from the Tower, the number of Aes Sedai remains significant. Interestingly, in the TV series, it takes just eight Aes Sedai to subdue a male channeler, whereas in Robert Jordan’s “Wheel of Time” series, thirteen are needed for the same purpose.
In the Wheel of Time TV series, it seems they’re only featuring eight out of the thirteen Forsaken characters. This number, significant throughout Jordan’s books, represents groups like the Black Ajah within the White Tower and the Aiel clans. Reducing the number to eight alters the dynamics around Rand, as he must be cautious when so many women who can channel are present in his company.
Elaida’s Plan Sets Up A Major Part Of The Wheel of Time’s Sixth Book
Rand Will Have To Face Elaida’s Aes Sedai
In the sixth novel titled “Lord of Chaos,” part of “The Wheel of Time” series, Elaida dispatches channelers with the intention to subdue Rand, thereby instigating a confrontation between the White Tower’s faction and his allies. This results in Rand being apprehended and subjected to torment by a group of thirteen women. However, for the television adaptation on Prime Video, “The Wheel of Time,” there will only be eight Aes Sedai involved. Although eight Aes Sedai would still represent a formidable power, it is significantly less intimidating than thirteen, which could alter the dynamics in this particular scene when the show reaches that point.
