JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Studio Reveals First Look at New Disney+ Anime Ahead of October Release
Enthusiasts are all geared up for a fantastic October. The creators of the quirky and adored anime series have recently revealed their latest anime production, which will premiere on Disney+ in October.
David Production, a Japanese animation company known for creating various anime series including JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, unveiled the first glimpse of their upcoming original anime at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan. This sneak peek was shown during Star Wars Celebration 2025, an official Star Wars event organized by Disney and Lucasfilm, highlighting exciting new content. The studio behind JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is producing a short anime based on the groundbreaking sci-fi franchise created by American filmmaker George Lucas.
‘Black’ Is an Original Star Wars: Visions Story by JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure’s David Production
In the upcoming season of “Star Wars: Visions” on Disney+, slated for October 29, 2025, the short anime film titled “Black,” produced by David Production and directed by Shinya Ohira, a renowned animator known for his unique style and work on Studio Ghibli films like “Akira,” “FLCL,” and “Ping Pong The Animation,” will make its debut. Although the official plot details are still unavailable, the teaser trailer hints at a visually striking portrayal of the Rebel Alliance’s destruction of the Death Star, contrasting the violent chaos of Darth Vader’s Stormtroopers with a lively, jazzy tune.
Apart from Ohira, Vincent Chansard is also contributing to the creation of “Black” for Star Wars: Visions Volume 3, boasting a reputation as an exceptional freelance animator who has produced remarkable scenes in hit anime series like Shonen Jump. Notably, his work includes animation that garnered high praise on popular shows such as My Hero Academia and Jujutsu Kaisen, produced by Bones and MAPPA respectively. However, it’s important to note that this recognition does not reflect his past experiences in a positive light.
In the upcoming lineup, one of the six fresh stories coming soon is a new anime short produced by David Production. Out of the nine movies scheduled to be released, three will continue popular tales from the past that were initially presented in the anime anthology. These three stories getting sequels are “The Duel” from Kamikaze Douga, “The Village Bride” from Kinema Citrus, and “The Ninth Jedi” from Production I.G.
In 2024, Disney and Lucasfilm announced the release of Star Wars: Visions Volume 3. This highly acclaimed series originally debuted in 2021, presenting nine short episodes created by seven distinct Japanese anime studios. These episodes reimagined the Star Wars universe through various cultural lenses. The second volume, launched last year, expanded the creative scope of the series, showcasing animation from studios around the world, including Japan, India, United Kingdom, Ireland, Spain, Chile, France, South Africa, South Korea, and the United States.
The announcement goes on to say: “We’re excited to present Star Wars: Visions Volume 3, where the animated anthology series comes back, tracing its roots to nine distinct anime studios. Notable returning contributors are Kamikaze Douga, Kinema citrus Co., Production I.G, and TRIGGER. In this new installment, we welcome five fresh anime studios to the Star Wars universe – ANIMA (in collaboration with Kamikaze Douga), David Production, Polygon Pictures, Project Studio Q, and WIT Studio. This will showcase even more diversity and creativity in Japanese animation.
The third volume of “Star Wars: Visions” is set to debut exclusively on Disney+ on October 29, 2025. You can already watch volumes 1 and 2 on Disney+’s streaming platform.
