The characters maneuver and strategize for their positions at the table. However, just as tension reaches its peak, Ritchie Stevenson requests one more favor from Harry. Trying to extract responsibility from the Harrigan family as the “Rat Trap” tightens around them.

MobLand Is a Show with Serious Intentions

Kevin Harrigan Continues to be Overlooked

The “Rat Trap” episode solidifies MobLand’s standing as a show with substantial themes. Tom Hardy has consistently been praised for his acting, but it is with this episode that Pierce Brosnan truly shines. Conrad transforms into a relentless pursuer of justice, displaying a stern, watchful demeanor.

After stepping aside from Harry Da Souza’s development for three episodes, Conrad emerges as the main focus, and the series “MobLand” remains vibrant. In a drama that hinges on subtle power moves between characters, it’s refreshing to shift the spotlight away from Maeve, who has been keeping Conrad in the shadows for far too long.

For those who enjoy delving into characters’ pasts, the flashbacks in “Rat Trap” offer intriguing insights into the sacrifices made by Kevin and Harry during their prison time. Despite Paddy Considine’s impressive acting skills, scenes of casual dialogue could potentially divert attention from Harry, while seemingly leaving Kevin with minimal involvement. Throughout MobLand, Kevin has largely been following in Harry’s footsteps, and the character still seems to be underdeveloped or overshadowed in many aspects.

Despite being intentional or not, it persists as a minor flaw in what is otherwise an outstanding series. Kevin lacks the explosive traits of Eddie and the cunning qualities that make Maeve compelling. Conrad’s old-fashioned bully demeanor is absent, and Harry seems to have cut off all opportunities for growth. As a result, Kevin becomes a stereotypical downtrodden character who follows rules during family gatherings. Bella, his wife, shows more courage in just two minutes of screen time than Kevin does throughout this episode, making viewers wish she had a larger role.

In another part of the story, Tom Hardy solidifies his status as a leading actor in this installment, shining among the other stars. This is the performance viewers should watch, as it’s one of the most intricate portrayals currently available on Paramount+. Michael Fassbender, however, struggled to bring humanity to his Martian character. In “Rat Trap”, Harry shows a clear empathy for people, although he’s unable to express it to others. His personal struggles and the devious machinations within the Harrigan family keep “MobLand” an indispensable series. “Rat Trap” won’t change anyone’s mind about this.
