A Fan Asked The Internet To ‘Kill’ One DreamWorks Franchise, And The Number Of People Saying How To Train Your Dragon Is Blowing My Mind

I enjoy a good discussion as much as the Internet does, and recently, I found myself immersed in a popular twist on the classic “Chuck, Fk, Marry” game, where fans were pitting DreamWorks movies against each other on the platform X (previously known as Twitter). However, I was surprised to discover that many people don’t share my enthusiasm for what I consider to be the greatest animated movie of all time.

A passionate enthusiast of animated movies posed a question on X the other day, inquiring about the DreamWorks franchise that fellow fans would erase from their memories if they had to get rid of just one. Admittedly, I anticipated an engaging discussion to follow. The options presented were:

And if you don’t want to pull up that tweet, the franchise options were as follows:

  • Shrek
  • How To Train Your Dragon
  • Kung Fu Panda
  • Madagascar

The overwhelmingly positive response, or “chucks,” for the “How To Train Your Dragon” series.

As the cinematic enthusiast that I am, when the viral post sparked a flurry of reactions, it seemed as if everyone was echoing similar sentiments about who they’d want erased from existence: the very same actors, directors, or characters.

  • “How to Train your Dragon and it’s not close.”
  • “How to Train my Dragon easily.”
  • “How to Train your Dragon, and it’s not even remotely close.”
  • “Who even watched this? (shared a HTTYD picture)”
  • “How to Train Your Dragon is so easily the worst here and the only correct answer.”

Someone drew a circle around the image of “How to Train Your Dragon” and wrote, “I have no idea what this thing is,” suggesting they were unaware of the movie. Seeing this comment left me feeling rather disheartened.

In simpler terms, there were a few exceptions who might have mistakenly identified movies like Shrek and Madagascar, while there was quite a bit of negativity surrounding Kung Fu Panda in the discussion. However, most people seemed to be aware of Jack Black’s panda character. As for Dragon, I’m not convinced everyone understood it, but maybe that will change since How To Train Your Dragon is getting its own land at Epic Universe.

I Did Not Expect So Much How To Train Your Dragon Hate

Just saw the live-action version of “How To Train Your Dragon” and it’s absolutely stunning! The aerial scenes with dragon riding are truly breathtaking cinematic experiences. The story manages to strike both new humorous notes and the same emotional chords, making people tear up (in a good way!) during the film. In fact, I found myself preferring this movie over classics like “Shrek”, even though I grew up with those animated movies. It’s quite unexpected as I was an adult when the 2010 dragon movie was released, but it has left a lasting impression on me.

I have a strong affection for the Shrek series. I believe the cast in this franchise is outstanding, and I’m thrilled about the release of Shrek 5 next year. It’s hard to imagine that such a beloved series could attract any critics, especially when compared to the reception of Madagascar. Frankly, I consider Dean DeBlois’ work on the Shrek franchise as the pinnacle of animated storytelling from beginning to end. While the first Shrek movie might be my all-time favorite animated film, it faces some stiff competition from Beauty and the Beast and several other Disney classics.

It’s relieving that some others appeared to share my concern, as we were all equally affected when the Toothless-led series got hit by the shrapnel.

It seems that fewer individuals are utilizing X nowadays, as they’ve shifted towards Threads and Bluesky. Among those who still do, the ones who comment represent an even smaller group. Consequently, it could be that the user base of X significantly intersects with a larger number of people who dislike How To Train Your Dragon.

As a film enthusiast, I can’t help but share my excitement for the upcoming live-action release in 2025! If you’re not so well-versed with these movies, trust me when I say that it will be absolutely worth your time to catch this summer blockbuster on June 13th. The experience was nothing short of exhilarating for me, and I can’t wait for you all to join the adventure!
