As a gamer, I’d say: Over the last decade, Jonathan Hickman’s Avengers saga has been one for the books, and it all reached its climax in the epic tale known as Secret Wars. This event marked the end of years spent by the Avengers trying to prevent the multiverse from collapsing, only to find ourselves defeated time and again. In our final, grand battle, we were left unconscious, only to awaken in a new realm – a world created by none other than the long-standing Marvel villain, Doctor Doom. With power taken from the Beyonder, Doom has fashioned “Battleworld”, a planet pieced together from the shattered remnants of destroyed universes, where he reigns supreme as its divine ruler.

In the tale, Doom’s might was such that even formidable adversaries like Thanos were reduced to ashes. It required a perfect alignment of events for our heroes to have any hope at all by the story’s end. Nevertheless, this epic cosmic saga is one of the finest in Marvel lore. The reason it doesn’t rank higher is that its scope is so vast, encompassing not just the Avengers but the entire Marvel Universe.

In “Avengers: Final Threat,” I find myself joining forces with Captain Marvel and Moondragon, rallying the Avengers to confront the formidable foe, Thanos. With Adam Warlock by our side, we’re drawn into an epic battle against not only Thanos but also his cosmic armies, with the fate of our world hanging in the balance once more.

In this two-piece narrative, the Avengers caught a mere glimpse of Thanos’ potential power when he had all six Infinity Stones. Even with allies such as Captain Marvel and Adam Warlock, they faced ongoing battles against their age-old adversary. It wasn’t until a relatively green Spider-Man offered assistance that the Earth’s strongest champions could temporarily imprison Thanos.

As a gamer, I wasn’t expecting much laughter when heroes ventured into cosmic realms, but Jed McKay and Farid Karami’s “Avengers: The Casino Job” showed that even with cosmic-level perils, there’s room for some good ol’ fun. This three-part escapade kicks off with the Avengers teaming up to pull off a daring heist – snatching a valuable artifact before it hits the auction block. The story then propels us into the extraterrestrial casino of The Grandmaster, where we find our heroes squaring off against Kang the Conqueror and the sly Black Cat. It’s an intergalactic adventure that proves you can have your cake and eat it too – dealing with high-stakes threats while still keeping things lighthearted!

Instead of many space tales, “The Casino Job” presents the Avengers at their peak performance. Despite being outmatched in various instances throughout the narrative, their intelligence and expertise ultimately secure victory for them. While it may appear as a single insignificant tale within McKay’s extensive Avengers saga, this exhilarating adventure remains enjoyable for fans of the Avengers, offering a revisit-worthy experience even years later.

Avengers Vol. 1 #675-690 By Mark Waid, Al Ewing, Jim Zub, Pepe Larraz, Kim Jacinto, Paco Medina

Mark Waid, Al Ewing, and Jim Zub concluded their tenure on the Avengers with the thrilling saga titled “Avengers: No Surrender“. This epic storyline had an astonishing climax. In “No Surrender“, Earth was abducted and became a pawn in a cosmic game among the Elders of the Universe. Instead, it’s captivating to witness this team unite, drawing upon their years of training and camaraderie to devise yet another winning strategy. Novice comic book enthusiasts who cherish the Avengers would be well-advised to begin with this story.

Typically, when the Avengers delve into cosmic realms, it’s more about grand visuals and epic battles. However, “The Korvac Saga” is distinct in that it combines elements of a poignant love story with a classic Avengers space adventure. While the Avengers may emerge victorious in the conflict, it’s Korvac’s longing to be a good person that ultimately safeguards everyone.

Avengers: No Road Home #1-10 By Mark Waid, Al Ewing, Jim Zub, Paco Medina, Juan Vlasco, Jesus Aburtov, and Cory Petit

In the aftermath of “Avengers: No Surrender,” the Avengers embark on another interstellar odyssey in “Avengers: No Road Home.” This time, they face a formidable adversary more perilous than ever before. The climax of “No Surrender” stirs Nyx, the Queen of Night, who vows to envelop the entire cosmos in shadow.
