The Weeping
In a new collaboration, talented actor Doug Jones, known for his roles in Guillermo del Toro’s films, is teaming up with director Spyder Dobrofsky for an upcoming project. According to recent reports, Jones has been cast in the movie titled “The Weeping.
Jones and Dobrofsky collaborated once more in 2024’s chilling movie titled “Down Below”, alongside Eric Roberts and Bai Ling. The upcoming film, referred to as “The Weeping“, is penned by Dobrofsky himself, revolving around a group of friends daring enough to camp in a sacred Native American woodland. Regrettably, their adventure leads to the accidental resurrection of an ancient sorceress who haunts anyone who dares to set foot thereafter.
In addition to Reggie Lee, Chase LeMoor, Isabelle Hahn, Jordan Kennedy, and Craig Ng, The Weeping film cast includes Lee’s character, who is shown in the movie’s production image below, being attacked by a demon. Giovanna Andolina is producing this movie under the Worlds Apart banner.
The Actor Played Saru in Star Trek: Discovery
Doug Jones is known for playing roles such as Abe Sapien in both “Hellboy” and “Hellboy II: The Golden Army,” as well as appearing in movies like “Pan’s Labyrinth,” “The Shape of Water,” “Hocus Pocus,” and its sequel. Additionally, he played a beloved character during the five-season run of a particular series, and portrayed Baron Afanas on “What We Do in the Shadows.
Speaking about the end of Star Trek: Discovery’s fifth season, Jones expressed his contentment with Saru’s storyline, stating that “the finale showed him thriving in every aspect of life, both professionally and romantically.” Jones highlighted how Saru advanced through the ranks on the starship Discovery, starting as a lieutenant commander and science officer aboard the Shenzhou at the beginning of the series, eventually becoming first officer, acting captain, and ultimately the captain.
“A Great Fit for Him”
Currently, he serves as a representative for the Federation, acting as a point of contact for smaller planets similar to his home world. This role aligns perfectly with his diplomatic skills, but more importantly, it allows him to assist these smaller planets in joining the Federation and experiencing the peace and harmony they’ve found. He finds this work incredibly rewarding.
Jones expressed that it made perfect sense for Saru to become an ambassador given his natural diplomatic skills. If we had progressed into Season 7 and beyond, the writers would have undoubtedly found a creative way to further develop Saru’s role, but with Season 5 being the final season, Jones was content that Saru found both romantic and professional happiness in this position.
The release date for “The Weeping” hasn’t been disclosed yet. On the other hand, you can catch Dobrofsky’s “Down Below” on PlutoTV, Tubi, and Plex. Meanwhile, “Star Trek: Discovery” is available to stream on Paramount+.
