Devil May Cry: Meet the Twin Brothers Causing Hell!

In April 2025, “Devil May Cry” debuts on Netflix, boasting exceptional animation and a loyal adaptation of the beloved Japanese video game. The struggle between Dante, the demon hunter, and the malevolent White Rabbit takes center stage in the first eight episodes, paving the way for two ominous villains in Season 2. Fortunately, the adult animated series garnered enough viewers and positive feedback during its premiere week to warrant a second season. Now it’s time to encounter the new antagonists.

In the upcoming second season, character Dante from the series “Devil May Cry” will likely face off against Vergil and Arius, two of Capcom’s most infamous villains. Given that Vergil is Dante’s twin brother, their confrontation promises to be a grand spectacle worthy of biblical tales. As fans eagerly anticipate the series’ return, it’s intriguing to speculate about the new antagonists in “Devil May Cry” and the challenges that await for Dante and his companions.

‘Devil May Cry’s Season 1 Story

Alex Larsen (known as Kid Twist to battle rap fans) developed a Netflix series called “Devil May Cry,” which accurately translates the cherished Capcom game of the same name about demon hunting into an adult anime format. The narrative follows Dante (Johnny Yong Bosch), a demon slayer whose internal struggle is evident from his unique origins as the son of Sparda, the renowned demon swordfighter who wedded a human woman named Eva and fathered two sons: Dante and Vergil.

Caught in his unique half-human, half-demon physique, Dante finds himself tasked with investigating a theft at the Vatican City Museum as the Netflix series unfolds. A covert government agency, known as Dark Command Realm or DARKCOM, run discreetly by the U.S. Vice President William Banes (Kevin Conroy), enlists Dante for their team. Banes instructs Dante to track down and halt a lethal terrorist called The White Rabbit (Hoon Lee), who used to be human but now seeks vengeance against those who mistreated lower-ranking demons by tearing down the barrier between humans and demons.

The secondary characters help establish the biblical motif, among them is Mary Ann Arkham, a formidable warrior often referred to as Lady by Dante. Mary commands a band of swordsmen for DARKCOM, which includes Anders, King, Ninja, Patriot, and Sentry. As Mary strives to carry out DARKCOM’s instructions and avenge her lost parents, she and Dante gather vital information from Enzo Ferino, an agent who assists them in overpowering the White Rabbit’s followers.

Who Is Vergil in ‘Devil May Cry’?

The White Rabbit’s minions consist of Sly, Bloodstryke, Cavaliere, and Plasma. In the Netflix series, it is revealed that Plasma overpowers Dante by disguising himself as Griff, a member of DARKCOM, thereby gaining access to its inner circle. These essential narrative elements are beautifully illustrated with stunning animation in the show. As the White Rabbit gathers his forces to destroy DARKCOM, Dante and Mary respond with unyielding determination.

In the climax of Season 1 finale, “A River of Blood and Fire”, Dante and Mary leave the White Rabbit stunned beyond belief. With mere seconds left, the antagonist summons backup forces to the Uroboros Detention Center. In this chaotic scene, Vergil makes an unexpected appearance, brutally slaying numerous inmates. Upon revealing his identity, he quotes a line from “Devil May Cry 5”, adding a chilling echo to the original words.

“The sapiens and their armies…aren’t aware of the storm they ride into. I am that storm.”

For those well-versed in the lore, Vergil is none other than Dante’s twin brother who shares their unique half-human, half-demon lineage. Much like Dante, Vergil was bestowed with the second portion of the enigmatic amulet, a relic they received from their mother, Eva. Although it was widely believed that Vergil perished alongside Eva, Sparda, in a surprising twist, reveals to Dante that he is indeed still alive.

In the storyline, Vergil follows instructions from Mundus, the ruler of the underworld’s dark domain, who secretly controls Vergil to carry out malevolent tasks aimed at destroying DARKCOM. As the second season unfolds, setting up Dante’s showdown with his brother, a new antagonist emerges subtly within “A River of Blood and Fire.

Who Is Arius in Devil May Cry?

Towards the end of the first season of Devil May Cry, Vice President Baines is shown standing beside an enigmatic, unidentified man. Although ordinary viewers might not recognize him, this individual turns out to be Arius – the main antagonist from Devil May Cry 2. Known as the head of Uroboros and a powerful sorcerer, Arius has a fascination with rare artifacts and dreams of dominating the world like an eternal deity. Leveraging his vast resources and luxury, Baines recruits Arius to fund the United States’ struggle against the demon realm. However, Arius also harbors his own ambitions.

In the Season 1 finale, Vergil receives a fittingly ominous introduction, but don’t underestimate Arius in Season 2. He might have seemed like a quiet manipulator in the background during Season 1, but he’ll become more prominent and will create conflict between Dante and Mary, much like he does in the game. It’s crucial to remember that Arius possesses potent dark magic and has been taken over by the demon Argosax, so his sorcery should not be trivialized.

In its second season, just like a top-tier TV series should, Devil May Cry is set to heighten the tension by having Dante and Vergil clash, deepening their Biblical narrative as they strive to establish who holds the ultimate power. Concurrently, Arius is expected to complicate Baines’ plan, resulting in two engaging storylines that should captivate both dedicated gamers and casual anime enthusiasts alike.
