Revealed! Obi-Wan’s Hidden Path Origin Finally Unveiled After Three Years
Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld
Fresh, never-before-seen Star Wars material unveils the backstory of Obi-Wan Kenobi’s clandestine group, the Hidden Path, and its enigmatic founder. Starting on May 4th, every episode of Tales from the Underworld will become available for streaming on Disney+, bringing forth fresh tales featuring Asajj Ventress and Cad Bane. Although, one of Ventress’ episodes was already fully revealed at Star Wars Celebration, thus confirming a significant detail about the covert organization that initially surfaced in 2022’s Obi-Wan Kenobi series.
2025’s Star Wars Celebration is happening right now in Japan, with Ebaster present to share all the thrilling news and sensational reveals from a galaxy not so far away. This includes Lucasfilm Animation’s 20th Anniversary panel, where an entire episode of Tales of the Underworld was unveiled, featuring Asajj Ventress. The episode delves into Ventress’ return after her demise during the Clone Wars, but what’s more, Tales of the Underworld also sheds light on the origins of Obi-Wan Kenobi’s Hidden Path and the character who initially set up this network in the Star Wars timeline: Quinlan Vos.
Jedi Master Quinlan Vos Founded The Hidden Path
The Jedi Council’s Secret Assassin and Order 66 Survivor
In the episode titled “A Way Forward” from the Tales of the Underworld series, Jedi Master Quinlan Vos is depicted performing a moving ceremony to lay Asajj Ventress’ remains in the waters of Dathomir. This scene echoes the final chapter of the 2015 novel Dark Disciple, which was inspired by uncompleted Clone Wars episodes. In this storyline, Quinlan Vos, assigned by the Jedi Council with a contentious mission to eliminate Count Dooku in order to hasten the end of the Clone Wars, forms an alliance with Ventress, who had once been Dooku’s apprentice. She teaches him how to harness dark side powers to gain access to Dooku and ultimately carry out his assignment.
As Ventress and Vos develop a romantic bond, Vos eventually falls completely under the influence of the dark side, becoming Dooku’s new apprentice. However, in a fierce battle against Dooku, Ventress sacrifices her life to save Vos, which leads to Quinlan’s redemption. Later, it appears that Ventress is buried on Dathomir, but Vos later re-enters the Jedi Order. He manages to survive both the Battle of Kashyyk and Order 66, making him one of the rare survivors of the Jedi Purge.
In the third season of The Bad Batch, Ventress was seen alive, which aligns with the novel’s hint that she was revived using the glowing water from Dathomir following Vos and Kenobi’s departure. This newly released episode of Tales of the Underworld provides a detailed explanation for her resurrection and also verifies that Quinlan Vos established the Hidden Path, a covert network active during the Imperial Era, designed to help Force-users evade the Empire and its Inquisitors. Although the Hidden Path was first introduced in Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022), it was also featured in Jedi: Survivor of 2023, where Cal Kestis and his companions were associated with this organization.

As a die-hard Star Wars fan, I must admit that learning Vos founded the Hidden Path was quite thrilling! Yet, it was Obi-Wan Kenobi who paved the way for Quinlan Vos’ reappearance in the Star Wars universe somehow. When we, Obi-Wan and young Leia, got linked to the Path network on Mapuzo, we stumbled upon a wall etched with names, the Jedi Order symbol among them. Guess who was one of those names? None other than Quinlan Vos himself!
Learning that Vos was behind the network creation and there could be a reunion with Ventress in Tales of the Underworld is quite thrilling, given he’s been assisting Force-sensitives during the Imperial Era and his existence was unknown to Obi-Wan.
All episodes of Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld begin streaming May 4th on Disney+.
