He’s a man with a taste for, shall we say, the finer things in life.

Stepping foot onto the breathtaking Greek island of Ios and settling into a lavish hotel, I couldn’t help but feel as if I had stepped right into my personal oasis of indulgence and comfort.

To be completely honest, I’ve grown accustomed to basking in the luxury of my affluent parents’ grandiose Eden Roc retreat nestled on the tropical paradise of Saint Barthelemy, aka St. Barts, during my vacations.

Instead, upon reaching the stylishly minimalist Relux Ios, marketed as a ‘romantic haven’, Spencer would find no staff ready to cater to his every need on this visit.

Upon his arrival at the sleek, modern Relux Ios – often referred to as a ‘romantic sanctuary’ – Spencer wouldn’t receive the usual attentive service during this trip.

Instead he would be the hotel manager after signing up for E4 reality series, Five Star Hotel.

The individuals with him were not typically the type he was accustomed to; they were stars like Joey Essex from TOWIE, who served as the venue’s bellboy during that time. They were all vying for the title of “Employee of the Season” in a three-week competition back in 2018.

During that period, Spencer’s popularity soared significantly following numerous years on Made In Chelsea. His public image received an additional boost as he was preparing to marry Irish model Vogue Williams, who was expecting their first child.

Sources on the show say he ‘really thought he was quite the bomb’.

Additionally, participating in the program was Charlotte Dawson, a vocal figure who is the daughter of the late renowned comedian, Les Dawson. At that time, she was both an actress and a model, and the bold woman from the North sought to increase her visibility and make some money.

Hailing from Blackpool, she was a stark contrast to Spencer, who had been reared in opulence, an observation that became clear. In fact, her entrance into the hotel, arriving later than the show’s start, seemed to spark his haughty disdain towards her.

The celebs then toasted Charlotte, welcoming ‘Chazza’ as the newest member of the team.

Speaking alone, Spencer expressed his sentiment saying, ‘This type I’ve encountered before, and I have a feeling she’s going to be quite a challenge.’

Despite an uncertain beginning, it’s worth mentioning that in merely a few days on the relatively unknown Greek island of Ios, situated between Naxos, Mykonos, and Santorini, Charlotte (age 25) managed to captivate Spencer who was known for his sophistication.

Regardless of their disparities in social circles, he found himself greatly appreciating her lively companionship, a shift that reportedly caused surprise among their fellow actors and crew members.

It’s not surprising, given his background: Spencer spent his childhood in a variety of luxurious settings, including Caunton Manor, a 30-acre estate in Nottinghamshire, and frequent vacations at his parents’ St Barts’ hotel. His brother James is married to Pippa Middleton, the sister of the Princess of Wales, while another brother, Michael, vanished during an Everest climb in 1999. Unfortunately, his body was never recovered.

Previously, his girlfriends resembled models from high-end fashion magazines like Tatler. Prior to meeting someone from Vogue in 2017 during their stint on Channel 4’s The Jump, he had dated several well-connected women from the reality TV show Made In Chelsea, including Lauren Frazer-Hutton, Lucy Watson, and Louise Thompson. Indeed, the atmosphere on set was quite dynamic, resulting in an unfortunate incident where Charlotte tripped and lost a tooth. It was Joey who discovered her in this state, prompting the producers to arrange a flight to another island for emergency dental care. Throughout this ordeal, Spencer stood by her side, showing great kindness and support.

At age 36, Spencer eventually triumphed on the show, an achievement that brought him immense joy; however, this happiness proved fleeting. His triumphant moment coincided with the same week when his father, David, was indicted by French authorities for alleged sexual assault of a minor girl approximately two decades prior.

David is reportedly accused of committing assaults on a young woman from 1998 to 1999, with the accuser claiming that one incident took place in Paris and another in St. Barts. It appears that the accuser resides in London and had strong connections to the Eden Rock Hotel, which David later purchased after his visit to French-speaking St. Barts in 1975.

He vehemently denies the allegations.

Three months following his reality TV triumph, Spencer wedded Vogue at a flawless ceremony held on an Inverness-shire estate’s lake belonging to the Matthews family, covering around 10,000 acres.

Six months into her radiant pregnancy, the bride-to-be carried the couple’s unborn child, Theodore. Quickly, the family became an appealing target for various profitable business prospects, largely due to their idyllic family persona.

When Charlotte encountered Spencer, she had already been in a relationship with Matt Sarsfield, a former rugby league player, for two years.
