Jessie Buckley’s highest-rated thriller hailed as “memorable” lands new UK streaming home

The thriller Beast, featuring Jessie Buckley in a standout performance, is now available to stream in the UK. Released in 2017, the movie follows Moll, played by Buckley, as she becomes romantically involved with a man who may be a serial killer.

During her birthday party, Moll wanders off and unexpectedly encounters Pascal, a man known in town for poaching and who is also a person of interest to the police. Their eyes meet, creating a tense moment.

There’s an instant and powerful connection between these two broken people, and the movie beautifully portrays both the joy of falling in love for the first time and the overwhelming intensity of sexual desire.

The film stars Imelda Staunton alongside Johnny Flynn as Pascal, with Emily Taaffe, Geraldine James, Trystan Gravelle, and Oliver Maltman also appearing in the cast.

I’m so excited! Beast, the movie written and directed by Michael Pearce, is finally on Prime Video UK! If you’re a subscriber like me, you can watch it right now.

Critics are loving the film, giving it a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 144 reviews. This makes it the fourth best-reviewed film directed by Buckley, following two dramas – The Lost Daughter and Wild Rose – and a documentary called Blue Road: The Edna O’Brien Story.

A review in The Toronto Star described Buckley’s most popular thriller as “a jagged but memorable film,” praising how it “gradually reveals its secrets.”

According to The Australian, Pearce’s first novel, Beast, is a well-crafted debut that effectively builds suspense from ordinary situations and daily life.

According to Time Out, this remarkable first film from writer-director Michael Pearce is beautifully crafted but also unsettling, with a surprising and chilling effect that will leave viewers feeling uneasy.

I really appreciated how slowly the director revealed the story about characters falling for each other despite being on opposite sides. It wasn’t a fast reveal, and honestly, that worked in the movie’s favor! It created this really intense, gripping sense of mystery that just kept me hooked.

According to The New York Times, director Pearce has crafted a captivating and unsettling fairy tale, full of dark themes and hidden longings, beautifully filmed by Benjamin Kracun.

Beast is now streaming on Prime Video in the UK.
