A fourth Paddington movie is officially happening! Anna Marsh, head of Studiocanal and Canal+ Group, announced the news at CinemaCon in Las Vegas yesterday.
With the success of 2024’s Paddington in Peru, the Paddington movies have now earned over $700 million globally. While a release date for Paddington 4 hasn’t been announced, producer David Heyman mentioned that highly skilled comedy writers are already working on the script.
The latest Paddington film, Paddington in Peru, saw a shift in leadership, with Dougal Wilson directing after Paul King, who helmed the first two movies, stepped down. While Jon Foster, Mark Burton, and James Lamont wrote the screenplay, Paul King and Simon Farnaby, who previously collaborated on the second film’s story, contributed to the narrative development.
Let’s hope the writer of the next Paddington movie can work with the same talented team – King and Farnaby – who helped create the previous films.
Details about Paddington 4 haven’t been released yet, but it’s likely Ben Whishaw will once again voice Paddington. We can also expect to see the return of familiar faces like Hugh Bonneville, Julie Walters, and Jim Broadbent, though Bonneville jokes he’s starting to feel old!

We’re especially excited about the possibility of Hugh Grant returning as Phoenix Buchanan. He made a quick appearance at the end of Paddington in Peru, hinting that he’d soon be released from prison, which could allow him to team up with Paddington again.
Whether he’ll be a friend or foe remains to be seen though.

News of a fourth Paddington movie arrives just after Paddington: The Musical swept the Olivier Awards, winning seven prizes over the weekend. These included awards for Best New Musical and Best Actor in a Musical, which were shared by James Hameed and Arti Shah for their performances as Paddington – Hameed providing the voice and performance off-stage, and Shah bringing the character to life on stage.
