Fern Britton’s Stunning 5st Weight Loss: The Shocking Habit She Cut Out at 67 Revealed!

Fans were taken aback when Fern Britton unveiled her remarkable weight loss journey this week, posting a mirror selfie during a workout session at her home fitness center.

In a vibrant pink long-sleeved shirt and snug fitting black bicycling shorts, the 67-year-old presenter displayed her weight loss transformation on stage.

Over the years, Fern’s weight loss journey has been remarkable. In 2006, she underwent gastric band surgery, resulting in a significant transformation from a size 22 to a size 12. She lost approximately five stones in the process.

She’s been able to maintain her weight loss and further trim down due to her commitment to exercising at home, participating in the Couch to 5k program that transformed her into a frequent runner, and giving up a very unhealthy habit altogether.

So here TopMob takes a look at how Fern has achieved her jaw-dropping transformation:

Home gym

On Wednesday, I gleefully captured my selfie, proudly displaying my recent progress following my dedicated weightlifting routine. From dumbbells to a bar loaded with weights on both ends, I’ve been working with a variety of equipment to see this transformation unfold.

In her pursuit of a healthier lifestyle, it appears that Fern has transformed one of her rooms into a personal gym, with an assortment of weights scattered on the floor.

Sharing about her new book on her social media from the slim-gym, she wrote: “Revitalizing after a hibernation-like winter… #TheOlderIGet now available as a paperback.

In a January video, Fern disclosed that she had begun a fresh fitness routine, encompassing activities like running, cycling, strolling, and weightlifting.

She said: ‘I’ve started running again and gone back to couch to 5K.

Starting a fresh fitness routine for the New Year! Towards the end of the year, I plan to hike a section of the South West Coast path that spans approximately a week.

‘I have plans to catch up with a friend who is embarking on a 360-mile coastal trek, but I’m preparing for the occasion by going on walks throughout the week and carrying a backpack with some weight inside it, as well as wearing my boots to break them in.’

I plan to resume jogging about twice or thrice a week, also I intend to jump back into cycling, and work on strengthening my arms and shoulders by incorporating weight training exercises again.

Couch to 5k

Last year, before her Celebrity Big Brother appearance, Fern successfully finished the Couch to 5k program. She shared with fans that it was a wonderful experience.

She is also a fan of bike rides, yoga and long walks.

After completing the Couch to 5k program, the writer continued to run three times per week, with each session lasting approximately 45 minutes.

After my doctor gave me the green light to resume weight lifting following my shoulder injury, I found myself eagerly anticipating my return to the gym. It’s not just about building strength for me; it’s a lifestyle choice that helps me maintain overall well-being.

Previously, she mentioned about the challenge as follows: ‘A gradual, persistent strategy helps boost confidence significantly. In no time, I was able to run for a few minutes longer on each occasion, and my leg strength improved noticeably.’

Towards the beginning of this year, Fern announced: ‘I resumed running and re-joined the couch to 5K program. Here’s to a fresh start with fitness! As the year progresses, I plan to walk a segment of the southwest coast path which should take approximately a week to complete.’

I’m planning to catch up with a friend who is tackling the entire 360-mile coastal trek. Meanwhile, I’ve been preparing by going for weekly walks and carrying a backpack with some weight as well as breaking in my boots.

She outlined her intentions, mentioning, “I plan to resume running at least twice a week, and I’ll also pick up cycling again. Additionally, I aim to strengthen my arms and shoulders by incorporating weight training into my routine.

Gastric band

In the year 2006, she had gastric band surgery, a fact she kept private until two years had passed.

Reflecting on my conversation with the Daily Mail, I shared: “My cholesterol levels were elevated, and my knee joints were causing me discomfort. I found myself unable to run at that time. As I was nearing the milestone of turning 50, I decided, ‘You know what? I’m going to be different when I reach 50.’

‘I was cycling like mad and nothing was happening.’

Later, Fern mentioned that her primary care physician believed she was suitable for a surgical procedure, which is why she ultimately decided to undergo the operation.

She mentioned that it was essential for her health improvement, emphasizing that although she wasn’t necessarily unhappy with her previous state, she recognized that she had been dealing with health issues. She explained that these included recuperating from childbirth, divorce, and other emotional challenges.

Lately, Fern shared with Woman and Home Magazine that her gastric band surgery continues to yield results.

She mentioned that her older gastric band remains effective, as it restricts most foods from passing easily, but she can still enjoy chocolate and sip on wine.

Apart from that, I was puffing away quite heavily as well. My weight kept increasing, and eventually, I reached a point where I struggled to fit into my clothes comfortably. I don’t usually discuss figures, but let’s just say it became evident that something had to change.

‘I ended up in very stretchy baggy clothes for about a year.’

As a die-hard admirer putting words to my thoughts, I must confess that when Fern spoke about feeling just right back then, it struck a chord. But looking back now, I can’t help but feel she was as loony as a fruitcake!

‘I wasn’t mad, but I was simply coping,’ she added.

Quit smoking and diet

To enhance her dietary habits, she opted for consuming more proteins and veggies, preferring nutritious choices instead of less beneficial snack items.

She acknowledged the benefit, saying previously: ‘I once again found the feeling of satiety.

‘Your brain’s signal that makes you feel satisfied after eating – I’ve been particularly good at ignoring it for some time now.’

As a food enthusiast on a mission, let me share my thoughts: “If I can stick to a diet filled with fresh produce like fruits and veggies, whole grains, lean proteins, and good fats, while keeping a distance from processed foods, sugars, and too much salt, I’m confident I’ll be setting myself up for a healthier future!

Towards the end of last year, Fern shared her experiences during the lockdown as some distressing incidents prompted her to make significant changes in her life.

In simpler terms, after the UK imposed a nationwide lockdown due to the loss of her parents and the ending of her marriage, the presenter found herself moving into a period characterized by inactivity or lethargy.

In April 2018, the television personality experienced the loss of her mother named Ruth. Sadly, her father, Tony Britton, followed in passing at the end of the next year.

Then in 2020 she announced her split from husband Phil Vickery after almost 20 years together.

In a heartfelt conversation, Fern openly shared: ‘Last year, I lost my mother, the year after that, my father passed away, and then, unfortunately, my marriage ended as well.’

I’ve found myself slipping into a period of laziness that I refer to as such, where I’ve been spending more and more time in bed, delaying my wake-up times.

Fern confessed that she had difficulty finding a reason to wake up each day and started abusing substances like alcohol, cigarettes, and food.

After observing, the star began to see the impact of physical symptoms on her wellbeing, as she recognized that she had put on extra pounds and experienced difficulty in breathing.

Reflecting on it now, I can see that I was in a really tough spot. Over time, I managed to slowly work my way out of it.

One evening, Fern disclosed that the situation had reached its peak when, following an excessive number of cigarettes, she felt so unwell that she had to stop her journey and vomit in a field, thereby deciding to quit smoking for good.

She now has regular therapy sessions and is exercising again.

New relationship

Previously on the This Morning show, its host parted ways with TV chef Phil Vickery, who is now 63, in the year 2020 following 22 years of matrimony.

Even after undergoing a physical change the previous year, she shared with The Mail that the idea of her new partner witnessing her without clothing was rather intimidating.

In October, she expressed that it’s always challenging to expose one’s body to someone new, no matter the age. Currently, her body appears to be in need of a good pressing, whether an iron or a steam press might serve it better.

Pondering about starting a fresh relationship in my 60s, it comes with an extra burden of expectations. With wrinkles, jiggly thighs and breasts that resemble rolled-up Swiss rolls in my bra, I wonder if I could show all this to a potential partner. Frankly, I’m not sure.

Despite viewing it as essential for my renewal, the thought of a fresh romantic entanglement stirs up both terror and intrigue in me.

I picture the joy of conversing and strolling with a companion, someone who shares my passions, takes my hand, and perhaps… let me take a deep breath… develops a deeper connection.
