Christie Brinkley Opens Up About the Shocking Truth Behind Her Split from Billy Joel
In her forthcoming memoir, titled “Uptown Girl”, Christie Brinkley opens up about the passionate relationship she had with her former spouse, Billy Joel.
In a stunning encounter back in 1983 at a casual St. Barts tavern, the supermodel, now 71, and the iconic musician, both 75 at the time, sparked a wave of excitement among fans as their chance meeting ignited a whirlwind romance. This union effortlessly blended the realms of fashion and music.
The tale of their love unfolded under public scrutiny, with Joel prominently featuring Brinkley in the music video for his popular 1983 single “Uptown Girl,” a composition inspired by her.
In the year 1985, they got married, and they had a daughter named Alexa Ray around the same time. During almost ten years of being together, they were widely celebrated as the epitome of pop culture’s aristocracy.
However, beneath the dazzling exterior, the marriage started to disintegrate. Christie, in her disclosure, mentioned that Joel’s struggle with addiction was the primary reason for their separation.
In the quotation from People, she clarified that she didn’t want their relationship to end, but Billy’s alcohol problem was more powerful than both of them combined.

He said, ‘It wasn’t a big AA kick. I just got to a point where I’d had enough.
Being extremely intoxicated wasn’t pleasurable for me, and it likely caused more troubles in my life than I care to handle.
Additionally, Brinkley emphasized the captivating instances of her relationship with Billy Joel, reminiscing about the moment she was completely smitten by the renowned artist, expressing her deep affection for him.

In simpler terms, ‘He was composing songs in the recording studio and dedicating them to others by saying, “This is for you.” It wasn’t hard to develop feelings for him.’
She remarked, “Upon hearing him perform live, I unexpectedly felt a strong connection towards this attractive and captivating individual.
Regardless of the separation, Brinkley and Joel still maintain a positive connection, with Brinkley referring to their current relationship as ‘excellent’.
She pointed out to the media that since he predominantly resides in Florida, we don’t get to interact with him as frequently as before when he lived in Sag Harbor. However, whenever he drops by to visit Alexa, he would always stop by and greet us.
Both went on to pursue other serious relationships after parting ways.
In the year 1994, Brinkley tied the knot with real estate magnate Richard Taubman. Together, they welcomed a child named Jack into their family. Regrettably, their union didn’t last long as they parted ways just one year after their wedding.
After marrying architect Peter Cook in 1996, their union came to an end in a widely publicized separation in 2008 due to his unfaithfulness.
