Jay McGuiness Breaks Down in Tears and Flees Filming Over Bandmate Tom Parker’s Tragic Death
According to reports, Jay McGuiness was overcome with emotion while shooting the latest BBC series “Pilgrimage,” and had to pause filming due to shedding tears upon reflecting on the passing of his bandmate Tom Parker, who tragically lost his life in 2022 at just 33 years old after a tough fight against brain cancer.
In the second installment of the show, at the age of 34, Jay embarks on a spiritual journey along with six other famous personalities through the Alps.
As reported by The Mirror, a heartfelt scene transpires when Jay shares his feelings with comedian Helen Lederer, who is 70 years old. Moved by their conversation, Jay finds himself fighting back tears and needing to step away from filming for a moment, choosing instead to shed tears in the restroom.
Before the broadcast of the show, Jay openly acknowledged that he expected to be moved, stating, “I was filled with apprehension leading up to the show, knowing full well that I would discuss Tom Parker at some point during production. To my surprise, I ended up shedding more tears than I ever have before.
In October 2020, Tom, who is part of the band The Wanted, disclosed to his fans that he has been diagnosed with a terminal form of brain cancer and that the tumor cannot be operated on.
In those days, he shared a touching note accompanied by a picture of him with his spouse Kelsey and their child Aurelia Rose: “Hello everyone, I suspect you’ve noticed that we haven’t been very active on social media lately, and now it’s time for us to explain the reason behind this.

‘I have some difficult news to share – I’ve been diagnosed with a brain tumor, and I am currently receiving medical treatment for it.’
Instead of keeping it under wraps and concealing ourselves, we chose to have an open conversation where we could disclose everything clearly, giving everyone access to the truth as we see it.
We’re utterly heartbroken, but we’re determined to stand strong in the face of adversity. What we truly need right now is an outpouring of love and positivity from you. By joining forces, we can increase awareness about this distressing condition and explore all possible treatment solutions together.
Despite the challenging fight ahead, we’re confident that with your love and encouragement, we will triumph over it. Warmest regards, Tom and Kelsey.
Additionally, Jay disclosed that following Tom’s demise, he continued to converse with him, questioning if there might be some way for him to listen.
He acknowledged: “Indeed, every discussion carries an undercurrent of the question, ‘Can you truly perceive what I’m saying?’
In contemplating Tom’s diagnosis, I found myself acknowledging that the gravity of his condition became apparent swiftly, leaving us with limited options. It seemed utterly meaningless in the face of such an unfortunate turn of events.
In a subsequent comment, the star mentioned that during his friend’s illness, there were instances when he found himself praying. After his friend’s passing, a thought crossed his mind: “I wonder if he could somehow still hear my prayers.

As a die-hard fan, I found myself pondering over the fact that this sparked a myriad of unresolved queries within me. Intriguingly, I’m inclined to entertain the notion that there might be something fascinating yet undiscovered waiting for me out there.
Jay, having been brought up in an Irish Catholic household in Nottinghamshire, found the show particularly appealing since it allowed him to delve deeper into his personal journey of faith.
Over time, he feels that the guidelines or principles associated with being Catholic have become overly critical in comparison to his current stage of life.
In the three-episode BBC Two show, Jay is accompanied by hosts Jeff Brazier, humorist Helen, winner of The Traitors Harry Clark, comedian Daliso Chaponda, Paralympic competitor Stefanie Reid, and journalist Nelufar Hedayat.
Over a span of twelve days, they collectively cover approximately 186 miles, journeying from Austria all the way to the revered Einsiedeln Abbey in Switzerland.
Pilgrimage: The Road Through The Alps airs April 20 at 9pm on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer.
