Taylor Swift to Star in The Bodyguard Remake?

On Monday, model Tyra Banks voiced her thoughts, proposing Taylor Swift and actor Idris Elba, aged 52, as potential leads for the romantic roles in the upcoming remake, hinting at them as a possible love interest pair.

Sam Wrench, Director of Swift’s Eras Tour, to Helm The Bodyguard Remake

On Friday, it was revealed that the remake will be directed by Sam Wrench.

Warner Bros. reportedly asked Wrench, 34, to helm the project, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Previously, the acclaimed director who has earned both Grammy and Emmy Awards was responsible for creating Taylor Swift’s 2023 concert movie titled “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour.

Wrench’s prior projects include A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter.

1992 saw Whitney Houston make her debut as the main star in “The Bodyguard,” which turned out to be a massive hit at the box office, ranking as the second highest-earning movie worldwide that year.

The film additionally gained two Academy Award nods and showcased Whitney Houston’s legendary performance of Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You,” a globally popular track that garnered her a Grammy and is now her recognizable anthem.

Tyra Banks Says Taylor Should Star In Remake

On Monday, Tyra suggested that Swift and Idris should take on the lead roles. 

During her time as a guest co-host on Today with Jenna & Friends, Banks expressed to Jenna Bush Hager that Taylor Swift playing the main character would undoubtedly guarantee significant box office success.

‘I’m so beyond excited. That movie is everything,’ Banks, 51, shared.

Regarding the selection of actors, she expressed her opinion as follows: “I believe Taylor Swift would be ideal, given her popularity in both business and art. She has a knack for captivating audiences.

She said, “To be honest, I’ll put it out there. I’m African-American, Whitney Houston was too, while Kevin Costner is Caucasian. If we reversed the roles, imagine Taylor Swift as a Black woman and Idris Elba as a White man? That would be quite something!” She exclaimed.

When Bush Hager, aged 43, inquired about her possible role in “The Bodyguard”, Tyra emphatically declined, stating, “Absolutely not! We need someone who can truly sing.

Taylor Greatly Admires Whitney

Taylor previously expressed her admiration for Whitney.

‘I was a huge fan of Whitney,’ Swift told E News in 2012.

Additionally, I admired her spirt as well. Her constant smile made her seem approachable and easy to connect with.

Singer Wants Redemption After Cats Flop

Taylor may be aiming to showcase her talent on the silver screen once more, having appeared in the 2019 movie version of the musical “Cats,” which was met with poor reviews.

Regardless of its substantial budget, stellar cast comprising Taylor Swift, Idris Elba, Dame Judi Dench, Rebel Wilson, Jason Derulo, Jennifer Hudson, and James Corden, the film was met with unfavorable reviews by critics.

The movie, helmed by Tom Hooper, failed both critically and financially, garnering negative reviews due to its special effects, storyline, and acting skills portrayed in it.

In the movie, Taylor assumed the role of the lead cat character, Bombalurina, who was known for her flirty and self-assured demeanor and sported a unique red coat.

It was universally savaged by critics, even receiving one reviewer’s first ever zero-rating. 

Critics universally panned the film as a catastrophic flop, using terms like “disaster,” “jarring,” “huge failure,” “soulless,” and simply “misguided.” Movie enthusiasts across the pond agreed.

According to Deadline, the film brought in approximately $74.6 million worldwide, but its earnings fell short by around $113.6 million, resulting in a total loss.

Andrew Lloyd Webber, in his own words, didn’t care for the movie adaptation of “Cats” to such an extent that he decided to get himself a ‘comfort pet’, or a therapy dog.

The theatre producer expressed deep disappointment when he saw the movie version of his classic musical, stating it was “incorrect on a scale that was extremely frustrating.

It was also named worst film of the year at the 40th Golden Raspberry Awards.

Lord Lloyd Webber shared with Variety his sentiment: “Initially, there was little comprehension as to why the music resonated. Upon seeing it, my initial reaction was, ‘Oh dear, not this.’

Kevin, known for his past comment on Madonna’s Truth Or Dare tour as “neat”, was present at one of the six sold-out shows Taylor Swift put on in Los Angeles.

During each of her performances at Inglewood’s SoFi Stadium, which can accommodate more than 70,000 people, she completely filled the venue.

In January, Costner reminisced about a cherished moment with his dear friend, Whitney, as they both celebrated Whitney’s significant 70th birthday.

In the previous year, it was disclosed that CNN had asked Kevin Costner to abbreviate the eulogy he intended to speak at Whitney Houston’s 2012 funeral.

On Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast, the actor stated that the news channel requested him to shorten his tribute to Houston to accommodate it for commercial interruptions.

In the end, he firmly refused to omit any words from his eulogy, even challenging CNN to interrupt with a commercial break while he was speaking.

At Houston’s funeral held in Newark, New Jersey, Costner was among the eight individuals who delivered speeches.

On February 11, 2012, the renowned vocalist was tragically discovered deceased in a bathtub, mere hours prior to her scheduled appearance at Clive Davis’ yearly pre-Grammy Awards gathering.
