Lauren Sanchez’s Hilarious Space Wedding Bet

Lauren Sánchez shared the amusing jest she told her partner, Jeff Bezos, prior to embarking on her space journey as part of Blue Origin’s inaugural all-women team.

Upon returning to Earth, the 55-year-old Emmy Award-winning journalist shared a playful remark she told her fiancé, aged 61, before embarking on her groundbreaking space voyage aboard Flight NS-31.

As the Good Day LA host reminisced about her farewell moments with Jeff Bezos, founder of Blue Origin (established in 2000), she remembered catching a glimpse of him prior to her departure and feeling a bit taken aback, expressing ‘Oof’ internally.

She shared with Charissa Thompson that since they were planning a wedding, it was necessary for her to return, otherwise, it would disappoint her personally.

Thompson, then, revealed the joke Sánchez made to her before her emotional, eight-minute trip. 

Thompson reminded Sanchez, “You told Jeff, ‘If you don’t wish to marry me, there’s no need for you to take me to space.’

In response, Sánchez laughed and added: ‘You don’t have to send me to space!’

Sánchez embarked on a space journey alongside singer Katy Perry, television host Gayle King, human rights advocate Amanda Nguyen, ex-rocket engineer Aisha Bowe, and filmmaker Kerianne Flynn.

Reflecting on her journey, Sánchez expressed it as follows: ‘The experience was filled with joy and camaraderie. I felt grateful. It was like we were saying, “We’ve got this!”‘

When inquired about her observations, she responded: ‘The Earth seemed unusually tranquil. It was simply peaceful and quiet.’

As a lifestyle expert, I find myself struggling to put into words the unique energy that permeated the atmosphere. It was an unusual blend of tranquility and vibrancy that left me feeling deeply interconnected with everyone around me. In that moment, it struck me how intrinsically we’re all linked – perhaps more so than we often realize.

This historic journey marked the achievement of the all-female space team, who were the first since 1963 to embark on a space voyage and the only all-women crew ever assembled. They successfully soared 100 kilometers or approximately 62 miles above Earth, surpassing the Karman line, the recognized boundary of space.

During its descent, the spacecraft experienced freefall, offering the astronauts around three to four spellbinding minutes without gravity and an awe-inspiring panorama.

This past week, Sanchez discussed with The New York Times her plans for redesigning the blue suits, aiming to give a fresh take on the flight suit design.

She clarified that typically, these suits are designed for men. However, they’re subsequently adjusted to fit a woman’s body.

The author declared: ‘I think the suits are elegant but they also bring a little spice to space.’

Five months back, the journalist connected with Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim, who jointly run Monse and serve as the creative directors for Oscar de la Renta. They were responsible for designing the reporter’s dress for the 2024 Met Gala event.

They agreed to help her with the space suit designs.

In a collective conversation with Elle Magazine, the whole team disclosed that they will get their hair styled, makeup applied, and even don their stylish spacesuits during the flight.

Sánchez joked, while Perry stated excitedly: ‘Space will now have a touch of glamour!’

I’d love to bring some style and panache into space with me if I could. And let me tell you, we’re aiming to make astronauts really shine!

Starting from the year 2021, Blue Origin has conducted 10 missions to the fringes of space, with a combined total of 52 individuals aboard these journeys. Among those who embarked on the inaugural mission was none other than Jeff Bezos himself.
