Nate Lowman Readies First Solo Exhibition in Japan: ‘This Neighborhood’s Changed’

American artist Nate Lowman is gearing up for his inaugural solo exhibition in Japan titled “This Neighborhood’s Different“. Matt Black, a Paris-born, New York-based creative director who founded REFLECTIONS – a contemporary art platform, serves as the curator. The show will include an array of fresh creations alongside some of Lowman’s most renowned works.

The exhibition, running from April 26 to May 25, showcases the rich history and contemporary perspective of Lowman’s thought-provoking body of work. As described in the official statement, Lowman’s artwork, marked by pop culture references and a blend of humor and social commentary, challenges us to question the significance of the visuals that surround us daily. The exhibition will feature both his earlier pieces, such as the bullet hole canvases and reinterpretations inspired by Edvard Munch, along with newer works influenced by politically-charged symbols from American golf courses and satellite images of hurricanes.

Originally hailing from Las Vegas and now residing in New York, Lowman has been organizing exhibitions since the early 2000s when he debuted his first pop art series. This series focused on well-known cultural symbols such as smiley faces and hearts, which he displayed on canvases. Notably, Lowman has collaborated with Supreme on multiple projects, including a T-shirt for their Shibuya store launch in 2012 and a collection released in Spring 2022.

On the 25th of April, between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., Lowman will be hosting an opening event for “This Neighborhood’s Changed“. Drop by to get a glimpse of the exhibition firsthand, and don’t forget to check it out at the location provided below.
