Sister Defends Aimee Lou Wood After ‘Mean’ SNL Skit
Aimee Lou Wood‘s sister, who resembles her, Emily, spoke up in defense after Aimee’s appearance was ridiculed on Saturday Night Live.
On a Sunday morning, the actress who stars in The White Lotus received an outpouring of backing from numerous fans following her criticism of NBC as being ‘unkind’ and ‘not funny’, after they aired a skit featuring Sarah Sherman wearing oversized prosthetic teeth while mimicking Aimee.
In the group supporting Aimee, aged 31, stood out her younger sibling Emily, aged 28. Much like Aimee, Emily is well-known due to her success in the beauty influencing field.
On her Instagram Story, Emily posted a heartwarming photo of them both, expressing admiration for her incredibly capable sister.
She wrote: ‘My world is at aimeelouwood. She embodies the term POWERHOUSE. My appreciation for her is incredibly high, beyond understanding.
‘aimeelouwood is my world, and she’s living proof of what a POWERHOUSE means. The admiration I have for this woman is off the charts – it’s hard to put into words.
Just as I feel an intense, primal need to safeguard her, she’s not just my elder sibling, but the greatest one. She’s my most valuable human on Earth. Her unique authenticity and creativity are unparalleled.
‘My god we are really madly blessed to experience life on earth at the same time as her.’

It wasn’t unexpected that Emily defended her sibling, given their exceptionally close relationship.
Growing up as a pair, they were from Stockport, Manchester. Once Aimee ventured to London for her acting aspirations, Emily didn’t wait too long before doing the same.
As Aimee started gaining recognition, securing a part in the popular Netflix series Sex Education, her sibling also thrived in a related sphere – she worked in the world of beauty, eventually becoming a sought-after makeup artist for celebrities.
Consequently, Emily has amassed over 100,000 Instagram followers and has collaborated with renowned figures such as Rankin and Glamour UK.
While I may not be as widely recognized as my elder sibling, this doesn’t diminish the unique charm and expertise that I bring to the table. My sibling, with her impressive 2.8 million followers and frequent appearances on the glamorous red carpets, certainly has made a name for herself. However, I take pride in carving out my own niche and contributing valuable insights from a slightly different perspective.
Emily is not fussed about the comparisons, however.
When Interview magazine inquired about her reactions to comments on social media like “She resembles the girl from Sex Education,” Emily made it clear that she takes such remarks in stride and isn’t bothered by them.
She pondered: “Indeed, it’s been quite a while now, and I find myself much more like a serene figure, similar to a well-known individual’s sibling. Things have intensified, but they will calm down eventually. Acceptance at its core!!!

Beyond sharing the same enthusiasm for their individual talents, informal personalities, and intriguing uniqueness, there is a striking resemblance in their physical features that bind Emily and Aimee.
On The Jonathan Ross Show, Aimee shared that she was often bullied by her classmates due to her teeth being slightly misaligned, a feature that Emily also possesses. Some Americans find this surprising, but Aimee views it as a symbol of ‘attractiveness’ or ‘sexual appeal’.
Emily follows a similar approach as she appreciates her inherent beauty, accentuating it only with a lip liner. This particular makeup technique, known as the ‘viral lip liner trick’, was popularized by British Vogue.
As children, the sisters shared a intricate bond with their father, who spent most of his time working as an automobile salesman.
Earlier in an interview with The Guardian, Aimee shared that her childhood was marked by instability due to her father’s struggles with alcohol and substance abuse. He would unexpectedly abandon the family home for extended periods.
She mentioned that he often goes out for extended periods, like several days at a time. One occasion stands out where he left and was gone for ten whole weeks since he attended the World Cup in Korea.
In Manchester, he was known as quite the social butterfly, mingling with celebrities and Manchester City football stars. His inflated self-esteem fueled by these encounters served as a source of validation for him, she noted.
Due to his actions, she found herself bearing a heavy burden. In an effort to safeguard us, she assumed the role of caretaker instead.
During her time at school, Aimee’s parents got a divorce. From then on, she resided with her mom and her mom’s new companion, who generously covered the costs for Aimee to attend a prestigious private high school. It was here that she discovered her passion for drama.

Despite previous struggles, Aimee’s father is now sober, and their relationship is far healthier.
Despite the challenges they faced during their childhood, the sisters’ vivacious, effervescent personalities have always shone through – a trait that was clear as day in one of their initial interviews from 2019.
They shared with Notion about their humorous character, their knack for carrying on lengthy conversations, their observations on the differences between the Northern and Southern regions of the UK after relocating to London.
I find London absolutely exhilarating yet intense – a stark contrast to the laid-back vibe of my northern hometown,” I mused.
In my experience, adjusting to a new place can indeed be challenging. For instance, when I initially settled here, I found it peculiar that saying ‘hello’ to people in places like Tesco Metro could evoke such strange reactions, as if I were planning to rob them.
Living with her sister Emily facilitated a smoother transition when moving to the southern part of England, providing them both with a sense of belonging and comfort, free from the concern of needing to fit in or be trendy, as the actress explained further.
Regardless of occasional concerns about how people in London might see them, this duo is confident in their skills and fully appreciates their unique blend of intelligence and charm.
They strive not to make comparisons between them, as each Wood sister navigates their unique journey towards achievement, sharing valuable insights and knowledge gained throughout their experiences.

In another piece published in 2020, an article from Polyester characterized the pair as extremely close friends, often completing each other’s thoughts and sounding remarkably alike.
It seems that the main distinction between them lies in their preferred forms of creative expression.
Emily, who is well-known for her creative TikTok videos that showcase her skills as a potential filmmaker, has skillfully designed eye-catching makeup styles for various companies such as Flannels.
I, being a die-hard admirer, had the incredible opportunity to collaborate on the makeup design for the radiant Aimee at her appearance in Burberry’s latest It’s Always Burberry Weather: London in Love campaign. Accompanying her in this captivating shoot was none other than Top Boy alum Michael Ward! What an unforgettable experience it was to be a part of such a iconic campaign alongside these talented individuals.
Emily excels at painting her sister’s face, but her biggest inspiration comes from her grandmother.
Emily, a person who identifies as neurodiverse, having received a diagnosis of dyslexia at age nine, shared with Off the Block that “Sylvia” is her friend. Sylvia hails from Ireland, is incredibly funny, and quite charming… She’s strikingly attractive but also a bit eccentric.
She inspires me greatly. I enjoy creating various looks for others, but it’s only her face that I truly yearn to transform with makeup.
Sylvia, too, isn’t excluded from Emily’s passion for applying makeup outside, which has somewhat turned into a distinctive feature of the 28-year-old.
Just as nature often showcases organic, unpolished beauty, Emily adopts an organic style when applying makeup. Instead of drawing straight lines, she uses squiggles and mixes various products in unexpected ways.
She shared with Off the Block that her work often appears disorganized and rough initially, which sometimes prompts people to chuckle and wonder what she’s doing. However, if they give it a few more seconds, they’ll witness the refinement of her work.

Emily wishes to demonstrate through her unique style that it’s possible to achieve a desired appearance without adhering rigidly to traditional methods or relying on a makeup kit stocked with numerous items.
It’s a message that Aimee, who has struggled with self-image in the past, no doubt now embraces.
In 2021, Aimee revealed to the Observer how peers at school bullied her over her appearance.
Due to this unfavorable incident, the talented actress, who had previously studied at RADA and performed significant theater roles at The National in London, came to doubt her chances of landing a television role. She felt herself to be considered ‘unconventionally attractive.’
She remarked: “Those who have experienced bullying can relate to feeling as though they’ve heard such words before, carrying them within, turning self-criticism inward, thinking ‘Perhaps if I were less of this, or more of that,’.
Apart from being a star, she battled with both anorexia and bulimia, admitting that her eating issues were usually a response to overly prioritizing others’ needs over her own.
She mentioned, “When I’ve spent too much time trying to please others, I can tell right away. Sometimes, I lose my appetite or feel like I need to force myself to vomit.
‘You’ve compromised your integrity, or you’ve not expressed yourself, then it’s all built up.’

Despite RADA’s staff recognizing the need for an intervention and Aimee herself describing it as necessary, she has experienced occasional bouts of self-doubt throughout her professional journey, particularly while working on Sex Education.
2019 marked a significant milestone for Aimee, as she made her debut on Netflix’s provocative comedy “Sex Education,” playing the role of the endearing yet airheaded Aimee, which was her first prominent acting assignment.
In the play, she portrayed the role of Adam’s school principal’s daughter, who was played by Connor Swindells; interestingly, they were romantically involved off-screen as well.
Despite the fact that their relationship ended after two years, Aimee shared how they had a deep-seated love and comprehension for each other.
She expressed that our affection for one another remains strong, and we continue to hold each other in high regard. Our parting wasn’t filled with turmoil or theatrics, she added.
Following her success in “Sex Education”, she garnered recognition from the industry and was awarded the 2021 BAFTA TV Award for Best Female Performance in a Comedy Series.
2020 saw Aimee grace the stage in the production of “Uncle Vanya,” where she shared the limelight with Richard Armitage and Toby Jones.
In the end, I became part of an illustrious ensemble in the production titled “The Electrical Life of Louis Wain,” where Benedict Cumberbatch and Claire Foy graced the stage as principal actors.

In a different major production, she starred alongside the acting icon Bill Nighy in the 2022 movie “Living”. The plot revolves around a witty civil servant in 1950s London who decides to take a break from work following a bleak medical prognosis, offering a humorous perspective.
Aimee went on to appear in Cabaret as Sally Bowles at the Kit Kat Club for a three-month stint.
In the previous year, Aimee starred in the BBC comedy titled “Daddy Issues,” portraying a character who was a pregnant party girl that had to return to live with her newly divorced father, played by David Morrissey.
She has recently reappeared on Netflix, featuring in the series “Toxic Town” alongside actresses Jodie Whittaker, Claudia Jessie, and Robert Carlyle.
As a lifestyle expert, I’ve been captivated by Aimee’s recent success. After resonating with the youthful audience through her role in Sex Education, she has now expanded her fanbase to an unprecedented scale with her performance in The White Lotus.
Aimee plays Chelsea – the young Mancunian girlfriend of Rick, played by Walton Goggins.
For Aimee, the distinguished list of roles she’s taken on is merely a beginning, and it’s evident that her younger sibling Emily will accompany her every step of the way. As Aimee ascends in Hollywood, Emily is poised to carve out an equally remarkable career for herself.
