In simpler terms, Charlie Brooker, the creator of Black Mirror, has shared insights on how an episode from Season 7 connects to one of its earlier installments.

This week, the sci-fi show made a comeback on Netflix, offering another serving of satirical dystopian storytelling. Notably, episode 4, titled ‘Plaything’, takes place in the same world as the 2018 interactive movie “Black Mirror: Bandersnatch”.

In ‘Plaything’, Will Poulter and Asim Chaudhry step back into the shoes of characters Colin Ritman and Mohan Thakur, who they originally played in the interactive storytelling series, Bandersnatch. Unlike a traditional sequel, viewers don’t control the plot by making choices, but the narrative continues with these familiar faces.

Fans are puzzled about which ending from ‘Bandersnatch’ is considered true within the series as it seems to be affected by ‘Plaything’. However, creator Brooker remains vague and unwilling to provide a definite answer concerning this specific plotline.

Brooker further clarified that ‘Plaything’ wasn’t originally planned as a sequel or companion piece to Bandersnatch. Instead, he expressed his hopes and prayers that he could persuade Poulter and Chaudhry to reprise their roles in the two stories after connecting them.

Among the episodes in the seventh season, ‘Plaything’ is not alone in its connection to an earlier installment. The two-part finale, titled ‘USS Callister: Into Infinity’, serves as a follow-up to the fourth season’s ‘USS Callister’.
