Actress Alison Steadman, famous for her role in Gavin & Stacey, has expressed gratitude for being alive following a severe fall she experienced.
In an interview with the Daily Star, the actress, known for her role as Pam Shipman on the cherished BBC sitcom, revealed that she was involved in an incident while vacationing in Dubai around January. As a result of breaking her foot during this incident, she is now using a wheelchair.
She remembered thinking at the moment she fell that it was a severe injury – the pain was intense. If she had hit her head as hard as she had hit her foot, she wouldn’t be here today. Whenever she feels discouraged, she tells herself: ‘What truly matters is that I’m still alive.’
For the past eight weeks, I’ve been confined to a wheelchair. It’s starting to wear on me a bit as I long for more freedom. I yearn to explore outside more often. However, being in a wheelchair allows me to navigate my apartment and move about, which is better than being bedridden or stuck in a stationary chair. I don’t want to be in that position.
Steadman, who appeared in the show “Better Man“, mentioned that she’d be wearing a boot for six weeks following a period with a cast. The next phase of her healing process will allow her to move around using crutches.

She added, “Next, I’ll need another surgery to remove the metal plates and screws from my foot. Fingers crossed, I’ll be able to walk again soon. Ideally, within a month, I should be using crutches for mobility.
Currently, Steadman is taking time to heal. Notably, she played Pam in the popular series Gavin & Stacey for the last time. The sitcom recently wrapped up during the holiday season with a unique, single episode finale.

Steadman expressed that the finale was incredibly moving and wonderful. He also mentioned that they all truly enjoyed it. Moreover, he found being back in Barry to be exceptionally warm and friendly, making the experience delightful as well.
Indeed, once we concluded our time together, it was quite melancholic as we realized, ‘Oh, we won’t meet again soon.’ There was a strong sense of emotion among us.
Gavin & Stacey is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
