Melanie Sykes Reveals Alopecia Struggle and Heart Issues in Emotional Update
On a sad note, Melanie Sykes shared with her followers on Friday that she’s been dealing quite intensely with the condition called alopecia.
The well-known television personality, aged 54, shared an update on her Instagram, informing her followers that she’s also dealing with heart-related health concerns in addition to the previously discussed issues.
In a fresh 30-minute YouTube video that she recommended for viewers, Mel discussed how she had “experienced significant hair loss” and demonstrated her side view, highlighting the bald patch on her scalp.
She said the photo was taken whilst she was in London ‘investigating some health issues.’
The ex-TV presenter disclosed that they’ve been dealing with hair loss (alopecia) and heart problems as a result of recent events. They’ve also been affected by post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), shock, mistreatment, and malpractice.
Mel decided to create a new YouTube video, where she will discuss her recent encounters, insights, and challenges with the UK’s healthcare system, and share those experiences with her subscribers.

‘Instead of following the current trend of disclosing all diagnoses, I wish to discuss the various experiences I have had within the British medical system, both in the public and private sectors over the past few weeks and beyond. This includes highlighting its shortcomings and how mainstream media influences me personally.’
She added, “It’s crucial for this nation to improve significantly. The quality of our healthcare is appalling except for a select few instances and remarkable individuals who provide care without bias or preconceived notions.
In a more detailed explanation, Mel shared about her health challenges while demonstrating the effects on her scalp by dividing parts of her hair.
She mentioned that she is dealing with quite a noticeable case of alopecia, as she has lost several inches from her hairline at the back and currently only has about half of her original hair volume.
The mum-of-two also added how she has been dealing with stress and insomnia.
Fortunately, she’s receiving treatment from a scalp specialist and has been informed that her hair should regrow.
Following being dismissed as insignificant due to her heart issues, Mel located a cardiologist prepared to assist with her cardiac concerns as well.
Recently, Mel has openly discussed her struggle with a heart issue, which occurred during the controversy involving her ex-colleague, Gino D’Acampo.

She collaborated with a TV cook on ITV’s “Let’s Do Lunch” program, and she has openly discussed her encounters with sexism within the television sector.
For a span of twelve years, accusations were made against Gino regarding unacceptable and threatening conduct. However, he strongly asserts his innocence to these charges.
Mel has been very vulnerable with her mental health recently.
As a devoted admirer, I share that there was a moment when she considered ending her life, seeking an escape from the unbearable agony and mental strife that consumed her.
The former presenter thinks that instead of being a terrifying event, death might serve as a means to escape from pain and suffering.
Additionally, Mel shares that she finds solace in personal prayer times inside quiet, vacant churches, allowing her moments of private tears when neither the clergy nor the parishioners are present.
As a lifestyle expert, I’d like to share my perspective on the subject of death and dying. Being spiritually inclined, I choose to approach this natural part of life with open arms instead of turning away from it. It’s about accepting its inevitability, finding peace in understanding its place within our lives, and making the most of each moment we have.
Hailing from Lancashire, Mel gained recognition through a popular 1996 television commercial where she served Boddingtons Bitter from an ice cream truck.

Later, she thrived professionally in television, starting with the Big Breakfast in 1997 and later co-hosting a popular daytime program called Today with Des and Mel, which premiered in 2002 alongside the late Des O’Connor.
From 1997 onwards, she found great success in television, starting with the Big Breakfast, followed by co-hosting Today with Des and Mel, a daytime show that debuted in 2002 alongside Des O’Connor.
In 2014, she ventured into the jungle to take part in ITV’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, eventually placing third behind X Factor contestant Jake Quickenden.
But in 2021, following her diagnosis with autism, she finally turned her back on showbiz.
Regarding her situation, she expressed that her later discovery of having autism has significantly improved her life, as it allowed her to focus on herself for a change.
