Jarvis Cocker Reveals His Bizarre Wedding Venue Choice: A Circus and a Traffic Jam Proposal!
British musician Jarvis Cocker, known for his pulp-style singing, shared an unconventional tale about his wedding venue selection and explained the surprising reason behind proposing during a traffic congestion.
In a conversation on The Jonathan Ross Show on Friday, the band’s oldest member, aged 61, disclosed this information while talking about his recent wedding that was held at a circus.
Jarvis mentioned that he had been intending to propose to his longtime partner, Kim Sion, a creative consultant, during their vacation. However, he encountered an unexpected obstacle that prevented him from doing so.
He said: ‘We’d been to Mexico.
‘I thought about it a lot there, but something stopped me.
In simple terms, “We found ourselves stuck in a traffic congestion close to Shepherd’s Bush. The discussion suddenly paused, and I had a moment of realization saying to myself, ‘This is the perfect time to…”

The singer went on to joke: ‘When the muse speaks to you, you have to answer.’
Ever since that pivotal moment, every single thing that unfolded regarding their union felt downright extraordinary, especially when it came to where they chose to tie the knot. I mean, who does a wedding on a remote mountain peak or a secluded beach at sunset? Not your average Joe, that’s for sure! It was as if this power couple was determined to break all the traditional rules and create their own path. And hey, more power to ’em! That’s what makes their love story so captivating and unique.
He mentioned: “We tied the knot at the circus. It was wonderful. I had considered picking up a circus talent, yet I couldn’t make it happen.
‘But I did enlist people from the circus to help for the introduction to the party [on the day].’
Jarvis further acknowledged that, given his advanced age, he deemed it inappropriate to organize a traditional bachelor party.
Instead, he decided to host a gathering at an unexpected location – a cement factory. Not only that, but he also arranged for attendees to explore the premises during the event.
He mentioned that, as an elder gentleman, he opted for an unconventional approach for his bachelor party, and instead of the traditional venue, he held it at a cement factory.
‘The social club was fantastic. We took a tour and got to see the furnace, the quarry, and all other facilities. We were solidifying an extremely significant occasion…’

The performer graced the stage to publicize the latest tunes from Pulp, a group established in 1978, who had just put out their first single in 25 years, titled Spike Island.
Jarvis admitted: ‘We just decided to see how many songs we could write and ended up with a record.’
The performer was equally delighted to talk about his unique, eccentric performance style and the various striking outfits he’s donned throughout the years.
Initially, when I began selecting my own clothing, it was through thrift store sales… For just 10 pence, I could fill an entire trash bag with items, allowing me plenty of room to play around with different styles and pieces.
Occasionally, things wouldn’t work out, but you give them a shot anyway. It’s similar to human behavior – if people chuckled at me as I passed by, I’d reflect and decide, ‘I won’t do that again’.
‘I evolved through that.’
