Where Are Your Fave Characters After The Pitt S1 Finale?

Appointment viewing medical dramas are so back.

For the past three months, watching “The Pitt” by Max each week has turned into a necessary routine for those aiming to steer clear of advance knowledge about the hospital emergencies at the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center.

The show titled “The Pitt” can be seen as a spiritual sequel to the series “ER“, with a format reminiscent of “24“. Each episode in this series portrays one hour of a shift at the teaching hospital’s emergency department. The creator of this show is R. Scott Gemmill, who was previously associated with “ER“. In the lead role, we have Noah Wyle, a seasoned TV doctor and also an executive producer and writer, playing Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch. This character serves as the chief attending physician, supervising the team consisting of doctors, nurses, residents, interns, and medical students who are in charge of treating patients at The Pitt’s hospital.

Throughout the first season’s 15 episodes, Robby and his healthcare colleagues encountered various crises, such as drownings, multiple drug overdoses, and a mass shooting – all happening on the fifth anniversary of the day when Robby had to choose between saving his late mentor, Dr. Adamson, who was dying from COVID-19 complications, and providing life-saving resources to a younger patient in need. Despite their exhaustion, they managed to finish work at the end of the final episode. A second season, which will unfold 10 months later during the Fourth of July weekend, is scheduled for premiere in January.

Given the time leap and how hospitals typically rotate staff, there’s a possibility that some characters, such as Whitaker (Gerran Howell) and Javadi (Shabana Azeez), might not be present in the ER when Season 2 begins. However, since it’s likely that Whitaker will have graduated by then, he could potentially return to the ER as an intern starting July 1, which is when new doctors usually begin their training. As for Collins (Tracy Ifeachor) and Langdon (Patrick Ball), if he’s allowed back, they might have moved on after 10 months, although we certainly hope that’s not the case.

This section provides a recap of each main character’s cliffhanger ending in Season 1, along with potential developments for them in Season 2, assuming they return.

In this rephrased version, I aimed to make the sentence more conversational and easy-to-understand while maintaining the original meaning. The key changes include breaking down complex ideas into simpler components, using everyday language, and eliminating unnecessary jargon.

Robby

The much-loved, heavily burdened attending doctor faced a challenging workday, to understate it. Throughout the day, he grappled with distressing memories of Dr. Adamson’s demise, similar to those caused by PTSD. Unfortunately, despite his valiant attempts, he was unable to revive Jake’s girlfriend who had been shot at PittFest. To add to his troubles, an equally traumatized Jake had the audacity to accuse him of her death.

It seems Robby’s hazards from his job are starting to affect him significantly. One day, after finishing an extended shift, he was discovered standing on the hospital roof at the exact spot where Dr. Abbott (Shawn Hatosy) was found during his night shifts when Robby arrived for work that morning. Fortunately, Abbott returned the kindness by checking up on his friend in a tough situation. In the end, they both left the ER and went for a drink with some coworkers in the park before eventually heading home.

Abbott

In the closing episodes of the season, we primarily encountered night shift doctor Dr. Abbott due to his unexpected appearance on a day off, lending aid during the surge of patients from PittFest. (His military background proved essential during the mass casualty situation.) We’re looking forward to exploring more about him and his connection with Dr. Robby in Season 2. Their bond appears significant.

Collins

Dr. Heather Collins didn’t return after being dismissed and instructed to turn off her phone in Episode 11, following the news of her miscarriage earlier during her shift. In the back of an ambulance, they shared a significant moment where Collins hinted at having had an abortion from their past. Robby promptly offered comfort, indicating a lingering affection between them and leaving us eager for more insight into their relationship. However, it remains unclear if Collins will continue IVF treatments after several unsuccessful and costly attempts. We hope to see her back in action, ready for more banter/conflict with Robby when Season 2 begins (unless she has switched jobs or hospitals).

Langdon

As a passionate cinema-goer, if I were in Langdon’s shoes, I’d have implored Robby for another chance after my lapse of judgment leading to the theft of narcotics from the hospital. He offered me a second chance, but it came with a stern condition: 30 days of inpatient treatment, regular urine tests about 50-60 times a year, and a five-year commitment to NA (Narcotics Anonymous) program. Following our heated argument over his mid-shift mental breakdown, our relationship ended on a sour note in the finale. However, being Robby’s former protege in the ER, I can’t help but continue my relentless efforts to regain his favor and rebuild the trust we once shared.

Dana

Following a violent punch from an upset patient and the chaos of a shooting incident, head nurse Dana (Katherine LaNasa) expressed doubt about returning to the hospital, implying she might resign. Her action of removing photos of herself and her daughter from her desk hinted at this decision. However, we refuse to believe that Dana’s career will conclude in such a somber manner. Moreover, the hospital seems to struggle without her presence.

Mohan

Initially, Mohan (Supriya Ganesh) was fueled by an adrenaline rush following the turmoil of PittFest shooting. However, in the final episode, we witnessed her collapse and weep in the bathroom. It’s clear that Samira finds it challenging to cope with the fast-paced nature of treating patients at the hospital and maintaining a healthy work-life balance outside of it. These difficulties may resurface as her career progresses in Season 2.

McKay

Due to Dr. Robby’s help, McKay (Fiona Dourif) managed to dodge arrest when her ankle monitor malfunctioned during the turmoil of the PittFest shooting. She ended her day by sternly warning “incel kid” David (Jackson Kelly) about the consequences of his actions, specifically a list he compiled of schoolgirls he intended to target. Despite ongoing custody issues with her ex and his new girlfriend, she was able to return home to her son that night.

Mel

Dr. Melissa King, the tireless second-year resident (played by Taylor Dearden), had just one more task left – performing a spinal tap on a young measles patient with overly opinionated parents who think they’re doctors – before she was off to collect her sister Becca (Tal Anderson), who has autism and requires high support, for their weekly tradition of dinner and a movie. Melissa is undoubtedly a beloved character from Season 1, and we have no doubt that this admiration will continue to grow as the seasons progress.

Santos

Despite appearing tough and unfeeling, character Santos (Isa Briones), an intern, showed a compassionate side during various moments of the season. For instance, she consoled a young patient after a failed suicide attempt and offered her home to Whitaker in the finale. Given her background, it’s clear that Santos has had a difficult upbringing which has made her adopt a hardened exterior as a coping mechanism. Although she may be controversial, we anticipate exploring more about Santos in Season 2, potentially even having her work alongside Dr. Garcia (Alexandra Metz) from surgery, who claims to have moved past the scalpel-in-the-foot incident.

Whitaker

As I, Whitaker, found myself drenched in all sorts of bodily fluids day after day, the burden of my fourth-year medical studies weighing heavy, a glimmer of hope appeared when Santos unveiled my secret hideout – the hospital, where I’d been crashing due to lack of funds for both transportation and shelter. Though life with Santos may not be all sunshine and roses, it appears that things can only improve from here for yours truly, Huckleberry. Adding to this newfound optimism was a heartfelt encounter with Robby during his emotional breakdown; perhaps this shared moment will shape our relationship in the days to come.

Javadi

At 20 years old, being a third-year medical student and the daughter of a well-regarded surgeon, Javadi certainly carries a significant burden of expectation. Fortunately, despite feeling faint during the day and finding herself somewhat overpowered by her shift, she appears to be managing well in meeting these expectations. In fact, she’s making strides in developing a friendship with her crush, Nurse Mateo (Jalen Thomas Brooks), and unwinding a bit after work with a beer in the park – though she’s underage, it seems Dr. Mommy won’t be scolding her for this small indulgence.

The nurse squad

In Season 1 of The Pitt, while it’s known that Perlah (Amielynn Abellera) and Princess (Kristin Villanueva) often chat about various topics, Mateo sometimes looks after McKay, and we learn quite a bit about them, the day shift nurses aren’t as well-explored. Nevertheless, it’s clear that they play a crucial role in keeping the ER functioning efficiently and ensuring patients receive proper medical attention.

Gloria

At the beginning of the final episode, we witnessed Gloria (Michael Hyatt) making a phone call to urge the ER to resume operations following its brief closure. Being the hospital’s chief medical officer, it appears that Gloria will persistently clash with Robby regarding the commercial aspects of preserving lives. However, they managed to have a pleasant exchange as Gloria acknowledged the good work done by Robby and Abbott during the shooting incident.

The night shift doctors

Beyond Abbott, we were acquainted with several other night-shift doctors at Pitt, such as Dr. Ellis (Ayesha Harris) and Dr. Shen (Ken Kirby). They stepped in to aid the shooting victims before taking over for the night. As the story progresses, it will be intriguing to learn more about this night team.
