Train to Busan and Colony Hit Theaters This Summer
According to Doris Pfardrescher, CEO of Well Go USA, director Yeon Sang-ho is a master of zombie films. His movie Train to Busan was a game-changer for the genre and is returning to cinemas in a newly remastered 4K version to celebrate its tenth anniversary. She adds that his latest film, Colony, builds on the excitement and scope of Train to Busan, offering a fresh and frightening experience for fans.
Okay, so I just got a look at the premise for Colony, and it’s a pretty intense ride. It centers around Professor Se-jeong, who finds herself trapped in a nightmare scenario when a dangerous, mutating virus breaks out at a biotech conference. Basically, the authorities lock everything down, leaving her and a small group of survivors to fend for themselves against some truly terrifying transformations and the desperate need to contain the outbreak. Sounds like a real fight for survival!
Released in 2016, Train to Busan rapidly gained recognition as one of the greatest zombie movies of all time, earning praise from critics and horror enthusiasts alike. It boasts a remarkable 95% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, placing it among the highest-rated zombie films ever – equaled only by the classic Night of the Living Dead. The movie consistently appears at the top of online rankings of the genre.
Colony Will Arrive in Theaters in August
Train to Busan is a thrilling, action-packed zombie movie that takes place mostly on a train speeding across South Korea. The story centers on Seok-woo, a busy father, and his daughter, Su-an, as they travel from Seoul to Busan. Just as the train leaves the station, a zombie outbreak begins, turning passengers into aggressive, infected creatures. The remaining survivors have to battle their way through the train cars, hoping to reach Busan – the one city thought to be safe from the spreading virus.
The success of the original movie led to a series of related films. In 2016, director Yeon released an animated prequel called Seoul Station. He later created a follow-up film, Peninsula, in 2020, though it featured a new story and characters while still taking place in the same world. Currently, horror director James Wan is working on an American remake of the film.
Train to Busan will hit theaters on Aug. 14, 2026. Colony will be released on Aug. 28, 2026.
