Gloria Hunniford Bakes for Daughter’s Memory
Star of Celebrity Bake Off, Gloria Hunniford, is making an emotional appearance on the show as a tribute to her beloved daughter Caron Keating who passed away.
Over two decades since I lost my cherished friend Caron, the ache of her absence still lingers deeply within me. Yet, her spirit continues to fuel my passion and drive in my personal and professional endeavors, serving as an unwavering inspiration for all that I do.
85-year-old broadcaster shared during this year’s Stand Up to Cancer event that donating to cancer research is a heartfelt tribute to remember her deceased daughter.
Caron, a beloved Blue Peter presenter, tragically died of breast cancer in 2004 at the age of 41.
‘Regrettably, I lost my precious daughter to cancer. There is nothing more devastating than losing a child.’
She went on to say: “Giving something back is a beautiful healing process since you’re doing it in honor of the person you deeply cared for, whom you still cherish, and who has passed away.

It’s constantly on my mind and influences my daily actions. Performing a good deed against such deep-rooted negativity can be incredibly therapeutic.
Gloria also mentioned that her daughter was a ‘very special girl, with a great sense of humour.’
In the last episode of Celebrity Bake Off airing on Sunday, the star will be participating, vying for the prestigious Star Baker award against actors Jim Howick, comedians Jamali Maddix, and models like Ellie Goldstein.
2021 saw Gloria, holding back tears, discussing her deceased daughter Caron on the Loose Women show.
She talked about making sure that Caron remains close to their hearts, particularly on birthdays and significant occasions, for the benefit of Charlie and Gabriel, her sons.
During a conversation about handling significant events in your life following the loss of a dear one, Gloria remarked that the initial one can be extremely painful.
When Caron passed away, and it had only been a week since her anniversary, I made up my mind privately to ensure that her kids, Charlie and Gabriel, would observe special days such as Mother’s Day, Christmas, and her birthday.
‘But on the date of her passing I try to keep it quite light.’

Instead, she detailed that it was the leftover balloons from her 80th birthday celebration that served as a unique marker for the memorable event.
She said: ‘The ’80’ balloon was really big so I thought I’m going to let them off for Caron.
When the boys arrived, we suggested, “Let’s float these balloons to mom.” We released them, and due to being filled with helium, they ascended quite high.
We enjoy ourselves quite a bit – sometimes we even decorate graves with balloons or launch small rockets carrying short messages.
She added: ‘I always think of the phrase ‘people never die if they live on the lips on the living’.
‘And that’s why I always like to talk about Caron to keep her alive in spirit and for her two boys.
It’s crucial to me that they continue learning, as they are now in their twenties. As a grandfather, I believe it’s essential to emphasize the significance of this stage in life.
Gloria built up The Caron Keating Foundation in the wake of her daughter’s death.
