As reported by Variety, the upcoming dark comedy from A24 is set to make its global debut at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. There, it will vie for the highly coveted Palme d’Or award.
The movie is crafted by Ari Aster (known for his works on “Hereditary” and “Midsommar”), and it narrates the story of a sheriff in a small New Mexican town, harboring lofty aspirations.
The storyline of the movie is not officially stated as a logline, but it’s rumored to revolve around the competition between Sheriff Joe Cross (played by Phoenix) and Mayor Ted Garcia (portrayed by Pascal), set against the challenging landscape of the pandemic.
Initial footage from the movie reveals Phoenix and Pascal’s on-screen personas engaged in a passionate dispute, taking place amidst the deserted streets of their hometown.
As a fervent admirer, I can’t help but share that the movie boasts an impressive ensemble cast including Emma Stone, Austin Butler, Deirdre O’Connell, Micheal Ward, Clifton Collins Jr., and Luke Grimes. However, at this point, their specific roles in the film haven’t been officially confirmed yet.
By March 2024, it was made official that the filming of the project had commenced. They shared an image of a clapperboard amidst a barren desert landscape on their Twitter/X account.
Previously, Phoenix and Aster have collaborated before, with Phoenix having portrayed a role in Aster’s 2023 offbeat comedy film titled “Beau Is Afraid.
In the meantime, Pascal is back for the second season of the post-apocalyptic drama “The Last of Us,” airing this coming Sunday, April 13th. It’s worth noting that a third season for the series has already been announced.
This past week, HBO announced a fresh series through a social media post with the tagline: “There must be a reason for it. Season 3 is on its way.
In the sequel to the television series titled “The Last of Us“, it’s said that season two will adapt the initial portion of the video game “The Last of Us Part 2“. It is speculated that season three could encompass the remaining part of the game, potentially serving as the concluding season.
