Even though the final season of Stranger Things came out a month ago, people are still discussing the popular Netflix series. Netflix recently released a documentary about the last season, and Finn Wolfhard joked about the show’s ending during his hosting gig on Saturday Night Live. Plus, new behind-the-scenes details are still emerging – Sadie Sink recently shared how she learned to skateboard for her role.
Sadie Sink became a fan favorite as Max Mayfield when she joined the cast of Stranger Things in Season 2, famously arriving on screen via a skateboard. While music often saved Max from the dangers of the Upside Down, skateboarding is her character’s true love – though it wasn’t Sadie Sink’s! In a video posted on Instagram by the Stranger Things account, Sink revealed that learning to skateboard for the role wasn’t what people might expect.
I had to learn to skateboard for the show, which wasn’t much fun, to be honest. I practiced for three hours every day after school, and it quickly became frustrating. I was also worried about falling and getting injured. Plus, having to wear a helmet, knee pads, and elbow pads made me feel a little silly while practicing in the studio.
Learning lines, managing a difficult school schedule, and then dedicating three hours every day to learning skateboarding is incredibly demanding. It’s understandable she worried about getting injured, even with protective gear. And trying to skateboard around the studio just adds another layer of difficulty.
It’s likely Sink didn’t perform all of her own skateboarding, as a stunt double could have helped. While it’s unclear exactly how much she did, the fact that she trained for three hours daily suggests she did quite a bit. Regardless, her skating looked fantastic, and she appeared to pick it up quickly for the cameras.

With Stranger Things finished, Sadie Sink seems hesitant about skateboarding again. She said it would “depend,” but also that she wouldn’t choose to do it willingly. While saying goodbye to the show was very emotional, it’s likely Sink is relieved to be finished with the skateboarding aspects of the role. It’s unclear if she’ll take on another part that requires it, but for now, she’s moving on from skateboarding.
Now that Stranger Things has finished, it’s unlikely Sadie Sink will be skateboarding for a role again anytime soon. Luckily, fans can still enjoy her skills in the show with a Netflix subscription. While it’s sad the series is over, Sink herself seems relieved she won’t have to learn to skateboard for the character Max anymore.
