Reggie Bird Shares Heartbreaking Story of Son’s Cystic Fibrosis Diagnosis

Reggie Bird shared a heartfelt account of the heartbreaking time when she discovered that her son, Lucas, had been diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis.

As a loving mother of two, I remember the heartbreaking moment I learned some devastating news when my youngest was merely four months old.

This week on The Two Doting Dads with Matty J and Ash podcast, Reggie expressed that upon considering a potential diagnosis of Cystic Fibrosis, her initial thought was something like, “I really don’t want this to be true because I am aware of how severe it is.

Cystic Fibrosis, for which there is no known cure, impacts the lungs and digestive system.

The disease can lead to patients experiencing chronic infections and breathing difficulties.

As a devoted admirer, I found out about Lucas’ situation being confirmed, and it felt like a massive whirlwind had swept through me.

‘He was essentially informed about the lifetime medication he’d need, and it felt more like an unexpected shock, something along the lines of “oh dear” or “this can’t be happening”.’

In another part of our conversation, Reggie shared an emotionally moving tale about having to administer physical therapy to her baby.

He’s a small newborn, and every day, they gently tap his chest with their fingertips, as if patting him, and this routine is followed religiously.

As a lifestyle expert, I’d advise ensuring that you provide him with the appropriate medication, helping his body to function optimally once more.

Reggie, together with her second spouse, Dave Sorenson, is the proud parent of a 18-year-old daughter named Mia and a 15-year-old son called Lucas.

Following my unfortunate incident last week where I had knee surgery, I found myself being urgently admitted to the hospital on Monday due to complications that arose.

As a die-hard fanboy, I couldn’t resist sharing my exciting behind-the-scenes peek into a typical day in the life of an “I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!” star! Today, I found myself tagging along with one of our beloved celebs as she bravely faced the challenges of the Gold Coast Hospital’s emergency department. Catch a glimpse of her day on my Instagram!

‘It’s been six days after the surgery,’ she said.

As I’m not quite at my best today, I’ve reached out to the hospital to share that my ankle and foot, post-surgery, remain significantly swollen. Additionally, there’s a persistent discomfort in my calf area.

40% of the cartilage needed to be removed from one side of Reggie’s kneecap by the surgeon, in order to facilitate a replacement for the missing cartilage on the other side.

In her pre-surgery update, she clarified that the surgeon had asked if she’d experienced any falls or trauma. She responded affirmatively, explaining that approximately a year and half ago, an elderly man on a mobility scooter accidentally hit her at Woolworths. This incident is likely the source of her current condition, she concluded.

Reggie has Retinitis Pigmentosa, a rare eye condition that leads to significant vision problems, and Usher Syndrome at stage two, which results in hearing difficulties and diminished hearing ability.

Presently, Reggie compares her vision to peering through a narrow tube, and medical professionals have warned her that it’s likely she may open her eyes someday without being able to perceive anything.
