AFL WAG Kellie Finlayson’s Desperate Plea Amid NSW Doctor Strike: ‘Never Leave Me Stranded’

Kellie Finlayson, partner of an AFL player, urgently appealed to her healthcare professionals during the ongoing doctors’ strike in New South Wales.

On Tuesday, numerous physicians working at public hospitals throughout New South Wales took a three-day break from their duties as part of a work stoppage, protesting about remuneration and employment terms.

At present, Jeremy Finlayson’s spouse, Kellie, is bravely battling advanced-stage bowel and lung cancer.

On Wednesday, the 28-year-old voiced her thoughts on Instagram, expressing her worry about the potential impact of the strike in her region but acknowledging the necessity of the action.

She expressed her strong conviction that our healthcare workers should have improved working environments, particularly with a higher wage. (This version maintains the original’s meaning while using simpler and more conversational language.)

‘The treatment might be the medicine, but the staff are just. as live saving!!’

I don’t have an issue with the medical staff going on strike. My concern lies with the administrative departments forcing them into this position, and persistently undermining their valuable work.

Kellie acknowledged that if her medical team decided to go on strike, she would be deeply saddened by the situation but also comprehend their reasons behind it.

‘If my oncology team were to go on strike would I be devastated? Yes,’ she added.

‘Would my life be at risk? Potentially. But would I understand their reasonings? Absolutely.’

Kellie shared a second post that showed her looking at the camera, head in hand.

Captioning the image, Kellie praised her team while also issuing a heartfelt plea.

In a postscript, it was noted that some members of her healthcare team are following her online. She expresses her affection for them, saying, “I love you all,” and adds that she deeply appreciates each one of them.

‘But also, never leave me stranded.’

After Kellie provided a report about her ongoing cancer fight, following the surgeries she recently had.

In March, she shared on Instagram that she’d had a thoracic operation. However, it seemed like her recovery was progressing smoothly.

The young mum published a clip of herself lying in a hospital bed, writing: ‘Me a week ago’.

In the upcoming shot, Finlayson appeared vibrant and healthy, posting a short video showcasing two scars on the left side of her ribcage as a result of the operation.

A little over a week back, Finlayson underwent Video-Assisted Thoracic Surgery (VATS) to perform a wedge resection on his right lung, aimed at removing metastatic growths and sending tissue samples for pathology examination in search of further insights and effective treatment options.

‘I’ve had soooo many people checking in to see how I’m doing, thank you!!!

Truthfully, I feel great. It might seem astonishing considering the significant surgery I’ve recently had, but I understand not everyone has the same fortune. Still, I’m grateful for any small victories I encounter during this ongoing journey.

Last July, Kellie sadly confirmed that she would need to restart her chemotherapy treatment because her cancer had started growing once more. This decision came following a period where she had discontinued chemotherapy and radiation therapy in favor of other treatment options.

Also in March, Kellie took to Instagram to conduct a Q&A with her followers.

She wrote: ‘Let’s catch up. Ask me a question.’

Multiple fans wrote to express their admiration for the brave mum.

‘You’re amazing!’ one wrote.

‘Apologies if you have already mentioned it but what was your recent surgery for?’

Finlayson replied: ‘Thank you,’ with two ‘teary-eyed’ emojis.

She mentioned that she underwent a Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (VATS) to excise a portion of her right lung, and in the process, she extracted five tumors that were metastatic.

VATS, or Video-Assisted Thoracic Surgery, is a type of minimally invasive procedure. In a VATS resection, a small portion of lung tissue is extracted using this method.

‘No I’m not in remission, nor can I be restaged, I still have Mets in my left lung,’ she wrote.

I was also inquired concerning my progress since the surgery, and I must say, I’ve managed to astound even myself! Frankly, I was quite apprehensive about this particular procedure.

Despite hearing some frightening experiences, I managed to move around just a day after surgery – an achievement that, given my previous bowel resection, seems almost unbelievable.

Since turning 23, Finlayson has been dealing with uneasy stomach sensations. However, these symptoms continued even after she gave birth to her child. Eventually, she was officially diagnosed with an illness, a revelation that left her feeling both shocked and bewildered, with anger also stirring within her.

The account of her life is incredibly inspiring, as she’s due to publish a book this month entitled “There Has to Be Something More.
