The director of the film titled “A Minecraft Movie”, Jared Hess, has announced that production for a follow-up is currently in progress, thanks to its remarkable box office performance.
The 2011 video game-inspired fantasy adventure movie, produced by Mojang Studios, is currently enjoying significant monetary triumph, having already secured the fourth spot among this year’s highest-grossing films – all within just four days of its release on April 4.
Additionally, it’s worth noting that “A Minecraft Movie” has achieved the largest three-day box office debut for a video game adaptation in the U.S., raking in impressive profits. This remarkable commercial success has prompted the producers to initiate the development of a follow-up film straight away.
During a conversation with Deadline, Hess shared his enthusiasm for a possible sequel to the film, hinting at various aspects of the game that might find their way into the next installment.
The filmmaker expressed enthusiasm, saying, “Wow, making this movie was a blast! With the vast universe of the game, there are countless unexplored aspects we’d love to delve into.

I’d love to revisit the series, as there appears to be discussion about a follow-up, which has me thrilled! I can hardly wait to dive back into that world again. The enthusiastic response from fans is palpable. In fact, we hinted at it in the closing credits, and the fan reaction has been overwhelmingly positive.
In the upcoming sequel, Hess, known for his work on films like “Napoleon Dynamite” and “Nacho Libre”, has confirmed that the character Alex, previously voiced by Kate McKinnon in the post-credits scene, will be an essential figure. He referred to them as a “key character” from the franchise.
The film entitled “A Minecraft Movie” features an ensemble cast, including Jason Momoa, Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks and Sebastian Hansen, who portray a band of outsiders. They are unexpectedly transported to a peculiar block-shaped universe through a portal, commencing a mission to return to their original world. Along the way, they receive assistance from the proficient artisan Steve, played by Jack Black.
A Minecraft Movie is in cinemas now.
