In June, the upcoming season will shine a light on Merthyr’s profound past as the world’s first industrial town, acknowledging its significance as an important part of Wales’ history. Additionally, this collection aims to break down stereotypes and showcase the unique attributes that make Merthyr stand out.

Jones exclaimed, “Who would have thought it?!” after discovering Merthyr Tydfil. He thoroughly enjoyed his educational journey there, guided by his good friend Steve Speirs. Without a doubt, he plans to return!

Speirs, the actor from Upstart Crow, shared that taking someone dear to him to a place he cherishes was one of his most joyful moments during filming. He expressed this sentiment because it made his life on set incredibly fulfilling.

We laughed until it hurt, chatted endlessly, and came close to tears several times. Our Merthyr trip turned out to be incredibly memorable for both of us. If even a fraction of the joy from the weekend can be captured on TV as it was in real life… then I’ll be more than satisfied.

Besides “Ruth and Steve: from Merthyr with Love“, the assortment will encompass “Boom Town: How Merthyr Shaped the World“, a groundbreaking documentary by Steffan Powell, delving into Merthyr’s history as an industrious town.

New programming additions feature “Live From Merthyr Tydfil,” a two-part comedic special penned by Kiri Pritchard-McLean, as well as “Rewind: 60 Years of Welsh Pop,” a 30-minute documentary that delves into the musical history of Merthyr and the valleys.

The heartwarming series “Love from Merthyr (Ruth and Steve)” is set to premiere on BBC in June. If you’re eager to catch up on “Gavin & Stacey,” you can stream it right now on BBC iPlayer.
